Windows 98 Disk Defrag Simulator
Relive the 90s: Windows 98 Defrag Simulator Nostalgia
Windows 98 Disk Defrag Simulator launched on July 18, 2024. The site was still online in September 2026, 2 years on.
What it does
Experience the nostalgic pixel dance of Windows 98's disk defragmenter. This faithful recreation brings the thrill of 'optimizing' your hard drive, block by colorful block. Enjoy the retro UI and sounds. No actual defrag, just pure 90s nostalgia!
Free online Windows 98 disk defrag simulator. Watch the cluster blocks move, with real HDD sounds, four drives, and no install.
Defrag98 recreates the Microsoft Windows 98 Disk Defragmenter in your browser, for free. Pick a drive, turn on the hard disk sounds, and watch the blocks rearrange. The cluster grid uses the colors of the original Windows 98 Legend, including the corner mark on data that will not be moved. Every pass decides what to read and write from the current disk layout, so each run looks different. Green shows reads, red shows writes, and the blocks then settle into their resting colors. There are four virtual drives, C, D, E and F, from 512 MB to 2 GB on disks of different speeds, plus Drive G, which you size yourself in Settings. Defrag98 is a nostalgia simulator. It runs entirely in your browser,…from defrag98.com

Defrag the Game2024 · defrag-game.com · ▲326Hi, A while ago, I came across this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR3TbL3Tl6M on YouTube showing 8 hours of defragmenting a hard drive. For some reason, it inspired me to create this small game. Have fun :)

I built my site as a Windows 95 experience (2025)May 2026 · wes.dev · ▲10After years in the back burner I finally invested some decent time in materializing the idea. I still have a lot I want to add, but this is the opposite of a minimalist project, and I had to draw the release line somewhere. Built with SolidJS, Astro and tRPC, because why not.

Many years ago, I made VJ softwares (to mix live visuals in clubs) for unexpected platforms like the Game Boy Advance, the Playstation 2 and the Raspberry Pi. This year, I’m back with a new web-app: Pikimov. Inspired by Photopea (a free Photoshop clone), I created this web-based motion design & video editor as an alternative to After Effects, to fill empty void. It's free, without signup, without cloud uploads (your files stay on your machine), and your projects are not used for AI models training.
