In plain words

Write Words on Your GitHub Contributions Heatmap is a dev tool that lets developers display text and images on their GitHub contribution graph. By strategically timing commits across repositories, users can create custom patterns and messages visible in their contribution heatmap. Launched in August 2022, it offers a creative way to personalize GitHub profiles for developers who want to make their contribution history visually distinctive.

I've thought for a while now that the Github contributions heatmap is a particularly uninteresting page. This thought popped into my head once more after reading a fantastic ebook on the fundamentals of Git , so armed with new confidence and knowledge of Git commits, I decided to fake contributions on my profile in order to spell out words on my heatmap. I knew that the contributions chart responded to commits in a Git repo, along with issues, pull requests, and other Github specific interactions. The commits seemed to be the easiest to fake (although I am a big fan of the relatively new Github CLI ), so I found where dates are considered in a commit object and tried faking them to see if…from blog.randombits.host

00's called, they want their RSS feeds back. I was looking at my growing Github gist collection when a sudden urge to blog and make a name for myself "by not programming" struck. Part way into implementing my oh so special static website generator it occurred to me that, quite frankly, Github gists is a pretty decent publishing platform. I mean, it gives you reasonably extended markdown with previews, heck I could even write in org-mode, has comments, follower - followee relationship, extended search with filters, check out locally and push your edits. Did someone say "edit button"? Thus the…

Made this todo list + calendar heat map over a couple of weekends, so its rough, but should be valuable enough to be used. Currently stores data in local storage, but I'm working on persisting data with auth + a database. Features coming in the couple weeks: (1) Search, (2) Categories. Hope you find it useful!

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN, I've been working on https://pornpen.ai, a site for generating adult images. Please only visit the site if you are 18+ and willing to look at NSFW images. This site is an experiment using newer text-to-image models. I explicitly removed the ability to specify custom text to avoid harmful imagery from being generated. New tags will be added once the prompt-engineering algorithm is fine-tuned further. If the servers are overloaded, take a look at the feed and search pages to look through past results.
