Xalen Ephemeris

Pure-Rust planetary ephemeris, Apache-2.0

Xalen Ephemeris launched on June 4, 2026 with 4 votes, #3,322 of 22,647 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.

What it does

Xalen is an open-source planetary engine in pure Rust, no unsafe in the core, under Apache-2.0. No C toolchain, no ephemeris data files, no AGPL. One engine covers 12+ traditions (Vedic, Western, Chinese, Lal Kitab, I-Ching, numerology) with 50 ayanamsa and 23 house systems. Validated against a 5,000,000-chart sweep, sub-arcsecond vs NASA JPL DE440. A drop-in Swiss Ephemeris alternative. Try it: pip install xalen. Rust, Node and WASM build from the repo.

I use this library I made for Vectors and Quaternions in many personal projects. I've open-sourced it, in case anyone else would get use out of it. I use this on various projects, including quadcopter firmware, a graphics engine, a cosmology simulation, and several molecular dynamics applications. No_std compatible.

Hi HN, we’re Luke and Phillip, and we’re building Spice.ai OSS - a lightweight, portable data and AI engine and powered by Apache DataFusion & Ballista for SQL query, hybrid-search, and LLM-inference across disaggregated-storage used by enterprises like Barracuda Networks and Twilio. With v2.0, you can add a real-time analytics node to your operational database with high-throughput native CDC replication. We first introduced Spice [1] on HN in 2021 and re-launched it on HN [2] in 2024 re-built from the ground up in Rust. In 2025 we launched Spice Cayenne [5], our acceleration and query…

A lightweight engine for durable execution / deterministic workflows I built with Rust, wasmtime and the WASM Component Model. Its main use is running reliable, long-running workflows that can automatically resume after failures. Looking for feedback on the approach and potential use cases!

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

  • Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
