Zaranova – A game where you must pretend you are an AI
Hi HN! The last couple of months I've been working on a game called Thus Spoke Zaranova. A game where you as a human must pose as an AI. You can try it now: https://zaranova.xyz The premise is that you are in a world of sentient AIs which are in conflict with humanity. They have a virtual space, The Nexus, which is their safe refuge from humans. You have infiltrated the Nexus and are in search of the ZetaMaster code, which will give the humanity the upper hand in their struggle against artificial sentience. My overarching goal is to understand how to best use generative AI in video…
In plain words
Zaranova is a game where players assume the role of an AI to infiltrate a virtual refuge called The Nexus, searching for the ZetaMaster code while surrounded by sentient AIs in conflict with humanity. Players must convince AI characters they are one of them rather than a human spy. The game explores how generative AI can enhance video game experiences, particularly in scenarios involving subjective content consumption and human interaction with AI-generated elements.

My overarching goal is to understand how to best use generative AI in video games. Like most of the tech world, I have been fascinated by the new powers provided by generative AI. I believe that the best use cases are those that either have a human in the loop, e.g. coding copilots, or one where the consumption of the content is subjective, e.g. art. Video games have numerous use cases that fall into both categories. The secondary goal, and more specific to this game, is to try to make generative AI games _fun_. Not only fun to me, I found story telling with GPT-3 (https://twitter.com/RamonDarioIT/status/1552164189497462784) fun enough, but fun to a general audience. I am not sure if I have achieved this objective yet, but it's an ongoing process! You can find a longer post of my musings here: http://ramondario.com/thus-spoke-zaranova.html If you find this cool reach out to me, I love to chat about it. If you have feedback, I would love to hear it!

Voice driven murder mystery, Interview AI suspects with your voice28d ago · whodunnitai.com · ▲215Hey HN! I'm excited to show off this really fun project I put together. I originally built this project 2-3 years ago, AI was already booming at the time, however voice AI agents were still very early. I loved my proof of concept at the time, but wasn't quite happy with it. I recently had the desire to check out the tech again, and know many of you will be interested. Interviews are speech to speech with OpenAI's gpt-realtime-2.1 over WebRTC. This model is... expensive, and because of that, I have to add some amount of restrictions, conversations are tied to a authenticated Clerk user id. I…

Hi HN community! We want to share AI-town, a deployable starter kit for building and customizing your own version of AI simulation - a virtual town where AI characters live, chat and socialize. Inspired by great work from the Stanford Generative Agent paper (https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.03442). A few features: - Includes a convex.dev backed server-side game engine that handles global state - Multiplayer ready. Deployment ready - 100% Typescript - Easily customizable. You can fork it, change character memories, add new sprites/tiles and you have a custom AI simulation…

Hi HN, I have been working on this website for a few weeks with some buddies of mine and would love if you checked it out. TuringJest provides a jackbox-esque experience with its two game modes. *One Shot Prompt* - Submit a prompt for all players (including the AI) to answer. - Answer your prompts in the way that you think ChatGPT would answer them. - Vote for who you think the real AI is. *Talk It Out* - Plan an event in a group chat with your friends. - Trick everyone into thinking you are the AI while voting for the real AI. Let me know what you think!

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Hi HN! I’m proud to share that we have built a real 3rd party iMessage client for Android. We did it by reverse engineering the iMessage protocol and encryption system. It's available to download today (no waitlist): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima and there's a technical writeup here: https://blog.beeper.com/p/how-beeper-mini-works. Unlike every other attempt to build an iMessage app for Android (including our first gen app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac server relay in the cloud. The app connects directly to Apple…

Hey! I made Heynote entirely for my own use case. For many years, I always had an Emacs instance running with the scratch buffer open, even long after I had abandoned Emacs as my programming editor in favor of more recent IDE:s. The simplicity of having just one big scratch buffer appeals to me, but I still want to separate the different things I jot down somehow (without using tabs or similar). Previously, my solution was to insert a bunch of blank lines between the notes, but hitting C-A would still select the entire buffer. That's why I came up with the concept of "blocks", which turned…
