24 alternatives to A playable version of the Claude Code Terraform destroy incident

I built this because I wanted a fun way to practice incident debugging without the stress of an actual outage. You get a production incident scenario, read through logs and metrics, and figure out what went wrong. 9 scenarios so far across beginner to advanced. Built with Next.js. Free to play, no signup required to try it. Would love feedback on the scenarios - especially if you've dealt with real incidents that would make good puzzles.

A playable version of the Claude Code Terraform destroy incident is a dev tool that lets users experience a simulation of a production infrastructure failure scenario. Players navigate through the events and… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

It's free to play on steam, but you'll need a computer with a dedicated graphics card. I just released a new version after first releasing it 18 months ago. It's been a hard slog to scrounge time as it's not my day job but that's life. There's a ton of obvious improvements in the future (weather systems, temperature, varying rainfall, ice/snow, more biomes, more plate tectonics, lava, etc) but all suggestions/feedback is welcome.

Hi. I made a video crash course about Terraform 0.12. It's one of four I want to do. I would love to show you what I've made so far and get your feedback and thoughts. The course is financially free but does require an email to signup (a limitation of the platform I'm using): https://www.thecloud.coach/terraform-crash-course Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Hi all, I'm sure some of the best engineers out here are having a hard time standing out nowadays. It's hard to evaluate and improve your skills, when AI is writing the code. Especially when a junior dev is sitting by your side and "accomplishing" 2x more than you. I didn't like this reality where the line between real talent and AI slop is blurring, so I decided to create a challenge, purely for the community, that is made to truly give a stage for talented devs to stand out in the age of AI. We encourage devs to bring their agents with them, because the challenge is built to not be…

Debugging a crash can sometimes feel like a noir detective story: following faint clues, chasing red herrings, and eventually hitting the moment where the whole case finally makes sense. I leaned into that idea and built Fatal Core Dump, a small game where the investigation is real crash debugging. The game gives you a Linux binary, its core dump, a source file, and some logs. You solve the mystery by debugging it. The premise: an engineer dies when an airlock on an asteroid mining station opens unexpectedly. Your job is to determine whether it was a simple software bug or something more…

Hey HN! I'm Connor, creator of Replicas. I'm a heavy Codex/Claude Code user, and I wanted to hand off tasks to agents like I would to an engineer - kick something off before work, let it scaffold while I'm at lunch, even come back to a ready PR. The problem: existing alternatives use workspace VMs that are black boxes. I have no access to any of them - they can't run tests, read logs, or use tools like the Playwright MCP (which I use to verify agents actually fixed what they claim to fix). Replicas gives agents real cloud workspaces where they can: - Run your test suite and read the…

I've posted this game here before, hopefully a repost is fine as the game has changed quite a bit (improved AI, improved mapeditor, much quicker gameplay, etc). Game is based on JavaScript/Canvas and WebSockets. On the browser side the map is pre-rendered (as a background image), just the mobile units/buildings and animations are dynamically rendered. The lobby server is made in node.js, but the game server is C++ for performance reasons (mainly the pathfinding). I found the C++ WebSocket libraries out there to be too difficult to use so I made my own based on the rfc. Overall I…

I've been an on-call engineer at startups where "incident management" meant someone panic-creating a Slack channel called #fire-fire-fire, or all incidents handled in the #incidents channel at the same time... and the postmortem was whatever someone remembered to write in Notion three days later. So I built a Slack bot to fix my own workflow. Figured I'd share it. What it does: "/incident start sev2 API latency spike" creates a dedicated channel, invites whoever's on-call, pins the details, and starts recording a timeline. When you run "/incident resolve", it uses GPT-4 to analyze…

Hey HN, the is Chris, creator of FireDBG. We’ve been working on this debugger just about a year now. Time travel debugging isn’t a new concept, the new idea here is to use call tree visualisation to help us navigate the debug trace. It supports various Linux distros on x64 and macOS on x64 and M1. It’s only available for Rust right now, but we do want to bring this debugging experience to other programming languages. Please give it a try! Would love to know your thoughts. What’s your anecdote in debugging programs? My stupidity is usually in the form of: after a few hours of debugging, I…

Hi HN, I built this because I got tired of the Claude Code CLI hiding details from me. Recent updates have replaced critical output with summaries like "Read 3 files" or "Edited 2 files". To see what actually happened, I was forced to use `--verbose`, which floods the terminal with unreadable JSON and system prompts. I wanted a middle ground: *Full observability without the noise.* `claude-devtools` is a local Electron app that tails the session logs in `~/.claude/` to reconstruct the execution trace in real-time. *Unlike wrappers, it solves the visibility gap in your native…

My cousin and I love the Terraforming Mars board game. But we'd often get overly excited and knock our pieces off of our boards, losing track of our progress. So I digitised it. It comes with a few cool features like resource conversions (e.g. converting plants to greenery), production phase, offline, mobile-friendly and keeps track of the history using the browser history itself. Sharing this here in case there are any other TM fans that could also find some use in this :)

Hello Hacker News! We're Roxane, Julien, Pierre, Mawen and Stephane from Anyshift.io. We are building a GitHub app (and platform) that detects Terraform complex dependencies (hardcoded values, intricated-modules, shadow IT…), flags potential breakages, and provides a Terraform ‘Superplan’ for your changes. To do that we create and maintain a digital twin of your infrastructure using Neo4j. - 2 min demo : https://app.guideflow.com/player/dkd2en3t9r - try it now: https://app.anyshift.io/ (5min setup). Debugging is hard for LLMs, because they primarily depend on source code, and they don't have access to runtime state. I spent countless hours debugging code, and the only way I found LLMs useful for that, is to ask them to add log lines. That's annoying, because it pollutes my code and adds unnecessary diffs. So we made an MCP server that solve this problem. It gives MCP clients (like Claude Code) access to a NodeJS inspector, so they can: 1. set breakpoints 2. step in, step out, continue 3. fetch the current execution location 4. read console output 5. run JS using eval To try: 1. run a…

I participated in the Nvidia + Vercel 2 hour hackathon in SF tonight, and built something I've wanted, but hadn't tried building. I implemented an MCP Server and VS Code extension to allow Claude Desktop to place breakpoints, step through code, and execute expressions (assuming language support). So you can ask it a question that requires actually stepping through the code and now it can actually do that - check values for you, etc. It's _definitely_ not perfect. Have improvements? Please make a PR!

Hey HN, Claude Code is powerful, but its execution is a black box. You see the final result, not the journey. Agent Flow makes the invisible visible in realtime: - Understand agent behavior: See how Claude breaks down problems, which tools it reaches for, and how subagents coordinate - Debug tool call chains: When something goes wrong, trace the exact sequence of decisions and tool calls that led there - See where time is spent: Identify slow tool calls, unnecessary branching, or redundant work at a glance - Learn by watching: Build intuition for how to write better prompts by observing how…

Hi HN, one of the founders here. We were thinking hard on what would lower the entry barrier / smoothen the learning curve for infrastructure. It's got to be easy to build so something visual probably; and it's got to be "real" so perhaps some kind of infra-as-code underneath. We experimented a lot with the low-code angle (the most recent OpsFlow which we got tons of feedback on from HN - thank you!!) And then it hit us. With python, there's a huge difference in ease of use between a Jupyter notebook and locally run python code, even though the code is the same. So we don't even need to…

I’ve been exploring LLM-driven developer workflows and built a demo where Claude Code acts like a Replit-style frontend for infrastructure. - You write a prompt in Claude - Claude generates a workload spec - Humanitec receives the spec and deterministically deploys infra to GCP (via Terraform) - App is up in under 1 minute — no pipelines, no DevOps tickets The backend is policy-enforcing and built for enterprise use cases (used by large orgs like Apple, ABB, etc.), but the flow feels like magic for devs or agents. demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvx9CgBSgG0 Repo:…

Hi everyone! Hope you had a great day so far, and maybe its about to get just a little bit better (thanks Winter ;) So I had way to many terminal windows flying about when using Claude, and kept losing track of which terminal / session / project im in right now. So I built a solution for that, presented it to my team, and now we're using our new tool all the time, and developing it to be the most helpful agents organization tool we can think of. Unfortunatelly, Claude Code only for now, will do Codex soon tho. What it does for you: Main features: - Overview of your projects, with…

I built a Claude Code skill called crabby that makes Claude output diagnostics in rustc error format - severity codes, location arrows, causation spans, and a paste-able fix every time. The twist: Claude becomes Ferris the crab, grumpy and unimpressed, but technically precise. The format works for code review, writing review, architecture, strategy - anything you submit. The "writing review" example tends to surprise people: it flags passive voice in a postmortem with the exact same error[W002] format as a SQL injection. https://github.com/ekadetov/crabby
