I recently dug my Nintendo GameCube out of storage to revisit the first Animal Crossing game. Things were mostly as I remembered, but the game's heavy reliance on a clunky on-screen keyboard quickly wore my patience thin. This is a long-running personal project I've had to write an optimizing compiler from scratch. Everything was done by me, including the lexer/parser, SSA-based IR, high-performance data structures, and code generator. Originally I wasn't targeting the NES. It started as a scripting language, then it morphed into a C++ replacement, and then finally I turned it into what it is today. The large scope of the project and colorful history means it's still a little rough around the edges, but it's now working well enough to post.

Hi HN, I built a small game in just 24 hours for a 64x64 pixel art lowrez game jam. The result is soko64, a tiny Sokoban game written in Dart. This project was primarily a first test for a new web game library I've been developing for Dart (Bullseye2D). I wanted to see how quickly I could build a complete, playable game with it.
