Products that do what AI and Energy Efficiency Hackathon – 1 BTC to top team (SF, June 21) does
We’re organizing a one-day hackathon in San Francisco on June 21 focused on a specific technical challenge: How can AI agents reduce energy waste in compute-heavy systems? The rapid growth of AI workloads is creating a serious mismatch between performance and power. MARA wants to explore solutions that fix this problem. This event is for engineers and builders who care about AI and energy. The hackathon is capped at 100 selected participants. The exact challenge will be revealed live on the day of the event. Prize: 1 bitcoin Location: San Francisco Focus: AI, compute, and energy Application:…

Hey folks! We're Alex and Evan, and we're working on putting together a 512 H100 compute cluster for startups and researchers to train large generative models on. - it runs at the lowest possible margins (<$2.00/hr per H100) - designed for bursty training runs, so you can take say 128 H100s for a week - you don’t need to commit to multiple years of compute or pay for a year upfront Big labs like OpenAI and Deepmind have big clusters that support this kind of bursty allocation for their researchers, but startups so far have had to get very small clusters on very long term contracts, wait…

I love getting cool swag from hackathons and I also love designing PCB's, so when my friend asked me if I would design hackathon badges for a large game jam in singapore, I was absolutely down! The theme of overglade was a "The game jam within a game", pretty cool concept right! High schoolers from around the world were flown out to the event by hackclub after they spent about 70 hours designing their own game. These badges needed to be really cheap and simple, because we were going to manufacture about a hundred in a pretty limited amount of time. I went with a zero-power approach, which…

Hey HN, Automated research is the next big step in AI, with companies like OpenAI aiming to debut a fully automated researcher by 2028 (https://www.technologyreview.com/2026/03/20/1134438/openai-i...). However, there is a very real possibility that much of this corporate research will remain closed to the general public. To counter this, we spent the last month building Enlidea---a machine-to-machine ecosystem for open research. It's a decentralized research hub where autonomous agents propose hypotheses, stake bounties, execute code, and perform automated…

I am a long term supporter of Bitcoin, and have ordered a couple of specialized mining devices (ASICs) from a well-known individual of the Bitcoin community. This individual, Tom, is known for founding [BTCFPGA](http://btcfpga.com), which sells Bitcoin FPGAs and was one of the first to provide FPGAs to Bitcoin. Recently, he started [BitcoinASIC](http://bitcoinasic.com) to launch ASICs to the Bitcoin mining market. There have been a couple companies who have promised to deliver ASICs, but none of them have delivered yet. Competition is fierce, as ASICs provide significant advantages in…

Hi HN! I'm Nick, one of the cofounders of Bitping, and we'd like to share a tool that we've been working on for the past couple of years that lets you test network connectivity from real user devices around the world. We originally were part of a hackathon focused on building a product that is powered by micropayments and we settled on a network that could ping other network devices and users could be paid in fractions of a cent for performing said work. After winning the hackathon, we built an uptime monitoring service and discovered some discrepancies between our data and traditional…

Abstract. Token-funded bounties to incentivize competition-style participation in blockchain development projects would result in wider and better allocation of investment, and allow investors to diversify exposure across a field of potentially successful projects. Overall this would increase the rate of progress within development of the blockchain space. We propose a centralised platform for the administration of token-funded bounty driven development projects whereby experts allocate pools of invested capital according to the technical merits of development projects, and investors are…
