24 alternatives to Amla Sandbox – WASM bash shell sandbox for AI agents
WASM sandbox for running LLM-generated code safely. Agents get a bash-like shell and can only call tools you provide, with constraints you define. No Docker, no subprocess, no SaaS — just pip install amla-sandbox
Amla Sandbox is a WebAssembly-based sandbox that lets developers safely run code generated by large language models. It provides AI agents with a bash-like shell environment while restricting execution to only… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hi everyone, I built a runtime to isolate untrusted code using wasm sandboxes. Basically, it protects your host system from problems that untrusted code can cause. We’ve had a great discussion about sandboxing in Python lately that elaborates a bit more on the problem [1]. In TypeScript, wasm integration is even more natural thanks to the close proximity between both ecosystems. The core is built in Rust. On top of that, I use WASI 0.2 via wasmtime and the component model, along with custom SDKs that keep things as idiomatic as possible. For example, in Python we have a simple decorator:…

Hi HN, we built SuperHQ, an open source app that runs AI coding agents in isolated microVM sandboxes instead of directly on your machine. Each agent gets its own VM with a full Debian environment. You mount your projects in, writes go to a tmpfs overlay so your host is never touched, and you get a diff view to accept or discard changes. API keys never enter the sandbox. We also just launched remote.superhq.ai which acts as a remote control for SuperHQ, allowing you to access your workspaces and agents from anywhere.

Epho▲156Hey folks, Burak here. Epho is an API that allows running Claude Code, Codex or Opencode in a sandbox in the cloud. It abstracts away sandboxes, and allows running coding agents with a single HTTP request. Epho came out of our own struggles with building our own AI analyst: - Sandboxes give you bare machines; you need to configure them for agentic workloads. - Each agent behaves differently, and you need to build integrations with each of them. - Sandbox providers are not very reliable, which means you need to figure out a multi-provider strategy to avoid failures. - Logging, artifacts,…

SuperHQ▲95Hey HN, I built SuperHQ, an app that lets you run coding agents in local sandboxes (powered by Shuru). No custom UI wrapping the agents, they run as CLI/TUI like they were designed to. It just provides you the tools most of us (okay, maybe just me?) needed for running multiple coding agents in parallel without worrying about breaking your system or work environment. Each agent runs in its own microVM. You mount your projects in, writes go to a tmpfs overlay so your host is never touched, and you get a unified diff view to accept or discard changes. API keys never enter the sandbox, they…

Bash4LLM is a single-file Bash wrapper for interacting with LLMs from the terminal. I created it because I wanted something simple that worked without installing Python, Node, or any other runtime. It uses only Bash, curl, and jq. You can send prompts, start a small chat, process files line by line, stream output, and save session metadata in JSON format. I tried to make it safe and predictable: no use of the system /tmp, no use of eval. Groq is supported by default, and other providers can be added with dedicated Bash scripts in the extras/providers/ folder. Example: echo…

I built a browser-only studio for designing and orchestrating MCP agent systems for development and experimental purposes. The whole stack — tool authoring, multi-agent orchestration, RAG, code execution — runs from a single static HTML file via WebAssembly. No backend. The bet: WASM is a hard sandbox for free. When you generate tools with an LLM (or write them by hand), the studio AST-validates the source, registers it lazily, and JIT-compiles into Pyodide on first call. SQL tools run in DuckDB-WASM in a Web Worker. The built-in RAG uses Xenova/all-MiniLM-L6-v2 via Transformers.js for…

We’ve been working with automating coding agents in sandboxes as of late. It’s bewildering how poorly standardized and difficult to use each agent varies between each other. We open-sourced the Sandbox Agent SDK based on tools we built internally to solve 3 problems: 1. Universal agent API: interact with any coding agent using the same API 2. Running agents inside the sandbox: Agent Sandbox provides a Rust binary that serves the universal agent API over HTTP, instead of having to futz with undocumented interfaces 3. Universal session schema: persisting sessions is always problematic, since…

This is my take on the common "use llms to generate shell commands" utility. Emphasis is placed on good CLI UX, simplicity, and flexibility. `llm2sh` supports multiple LLM providers and lets LLMs generate multi-command sequences to handle complex tasks. There is also limited support for commands requiring `sudo` and other basic input. I recommend using Groq llama3-70b for day-to-day use. The ultra-low latency is a game-changer - its near-instant responses helps `llm2sh` integrate seamlessly into day-to-day tasks without breaking you out of the 'zone'. For more advanced tasks, swapping to…

A WebAssembly runtime embedded in Godot game engine projects. Interact with Wasm modules from GDScript. Accessing Wasm modules via GDScript provides the following benefits. - Sandboxed environment allows safely loading zero-trust mods/extensions to a project. - Single target means that Wasm modules can be built from any language e.g. Rust, Go, AssemblyScript and the single binary can be run on all platforms. - Fast execution compared to GDScript allows for offloading compute-heavy operations or running bots/mods/etc. at high FPS. This might be useful for loading mods, bot AI,…

Current AI-assisted CLI tools are often part of larger systems and work better on Linux. I built llm-term to address these. It's a Rust-based tool that compiles into a single binary file. You only need to download the binary, add it to your PATH, and configure your OpenAI key to get started. While llm-term offers an option for gpt-4o, it works great with gpt-4o-mini. So it's not costly. I appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

I've been looking for a way to run LLMs safely without needing to approve every command. There are plenty of projects out there that run the agent in docker, but they don't always contain the dependencies that I need. Then it struck me. I already define project dependencies with mise. What if we could build a container on the fly for any project by reading the mise config? I've been using agent-en-place for a couple of weeks now, and it's working great! I'd love to hear what y'all think

Since I mostly work within the terminal, I wanted an AI coding assistant that integrates seamlessly with it. Something I could call from SSH, integrate into scripts or just invoke quickly without leaving the shell. Most existing tools (at the time) were either closed, required various dependencies, or tied to a specific vendor. I wanted a free, open-source alternative that: - installs with a single binary (useful on bare servers) - talks to any LLM endpoint and especially self-hosted open weight model - could run headless, composable, and Unix-like SHAI stands for SHell AI! Along the way I…

G'day, HN! I'm one of the maintainers of `llm`. I've been working alongside a trusty group of contributors to bring this project to life, and we're now at a point where we're ready to share it with the world. Large language models (LLMs) are taking the computing world by storm due to their emergent abilities that allow them to perform a wide variety of tasks, including translation, summarization, code generation, and even some degree of reasoning. However, the ecosystem around LLMs is still in its infancy, and it can be difficult to get started with these models. `llm` is a one-stop shop for…
