I made a simple virtual machine that runs C in the browser. This project is made as an experiment to see if C can be learned easier if the lower level is covered in paralel. My book on "GNU grep and ripgrep" is free to download today and tomorrow [1][2] Code snippets, example files and sample chapters are available on GitHub [3] The book uses plenty of examples and regular expressions are also covered from scratch. The book is suitable for beginners as well as serves as a reference. Hope you find it useful, I would be grateful for your feedback and suggestions. I used pandoc+xelatex [4] to generate the pdf. Hello, Some time ago I did a data logger for fun, just to check if I could beat the performance of an old C++ project of mine (mini-async-log) and to avoid letting my multithreading-C skills rust when on a non-programming gig (using Yocto/OE, very little programming). This project is a BSD licensed, producer-wait-free (when using thread-local storage) generic message logger with high performance, decent test coverage, and type-safe C strings (requires C11 or C++ compiler). It was a shame to let this project to die unknown, as I think that it has potential to be used on some niches as…

I rewrote the most common core string.h functions in pure C. I mostly did it to learn pointers and string. Would love to get any feedbacks:)

Hi HN, clx is an ahead-of-time compiler for standard Lua that generates C++20 and produces standalone native executables through GCC, Clang or MSVC. The project started as an experiment to see whether modern C++ could be used as a portable compiler backend instead of LLVM or direct machine code generation. The generated code is then compiled and optimized by the host toolchain. The latest release replaces the previous NaN-tagged value representation with a new shadow-types implementation, adds full int64 support, improves native arithmetic code generation and adds ARM64 macOS coroutine…

First tutorial to date. Writing your first C program, includes a link at the bottom with a detailed look at printf() as optional reading. I would love some feedback, as I intend writing up a lot of dev articles for people to learn from : www.xanthu.com/first-c-program

Yesterday, I found myself writing a little C throwaway script to test something out. That happens often enough to clutter my HOME and some other directories with these useless text files and binaries. So I thought that I can use a repl instead. Quick google search didn't find any good and tested solutions. So I wrote my own with help of a tcc compiler. Why POSIX Shell? Because it would be far too easy in a normal language (it'd probably take me ~10 minutes to rewrite this in Nim) and where is fun in that?

This is my hobby C compiler project. Decided to publish the code today, as it finally compiled itself. The readme on the linked GitHub page has a bit of information on how it works. I wrote the thing for fun, but if anyone gets a better understanding of the dark corners of C because of it, I am happy.

Hi HN, I'm the author. I built this project for two simple reasons: I've always used higher-level languages and wanted to finally understand what's happening "under the hood" of an interpreter. I also wanted a real project to force me to "power up" my C skills, especially with manual memory management and reference counting. The result is ToyForth, a minimal interpreter for a Forth-like language, written from scratch in C, stack-based. I focused on making the code clean and understandable. It's broken down into a few simple parts: A parser that turns source text into a list of objects…

We're a couple of software engineers who believe that to build great software you need to write good tests, but we also sympathise when engineers say things like: - "Writing tests was too time consuming on my tight schedule", or - "Unit tests don't catch enough bugs, so they're useless", or - "I've inherited a legacy code base without tests and have no idea where to start" To tackle this we're building Symbolica (https://www.symbolica.dev), a symbolic code executor [1], that lets you run your code for all possible inputs. This means you can do things like: - Assert properties about…

C Systems Lab is a free interactive web course that walks through 10 modules of systems programming in C: compilation, pointers, dynamic memory, structs, the preprocessor, file I/O, processes and signals, sockets, concurrency, and a tour below C. The free course itself is the link. Get the free sample of the PDF by adding "/demo" to the link. Since I don't necessarily like the paywall aspect of it, you may ask me for the complete edition by reaching out via email. Happy to answer questions about the content or the curriculum design.

CJIT started as a hobby project around Fabrice Bellard’s tinyCC and slowly grew into something much more practical. It is now a small portable C compiler and runner that works across Linux, macOS, and Windows, can self host, and is packaged as a single executable. What mattered most to me was keeping the barrier to entry low. You can take one small binary, drop it onto a system, and compile or run C code using the libraries already available there, without setting up a full toolchain or installing a large stack of dependencies. I find that useful for quick prototyping, testing, auditing,…
