Products that do what Chatterrapp (YC SUS17) beta – Talk to people having similar interests does
I am Amit, Co-Founder of Chatterrapp (https://chatterrapp.com). We are building a platform to let users have video chat with others sharing similar interests. Currently we are accepting sign ups for our Beta product. We tried many of existing platforms similar to ours and came across some major flaws like: - annoying chatbots posing as real users - obscene/offensive behaviour - irrelevant matches - no regard for user’s preferences/interests - non-persistent user profiles So we went ahead and surveyed as well as interviewed hundreds of potential users and found a common…

Hi HN, I built this out of frustration of the evergrowing list of AI models and features to try and to fit my workflow. The visual approach clicks for me so i went with it, it provides more freedom and control of the outcome, because predictable results and increased productivity is what I’m after when using conversational AI. The app is packed with features, my most used are prompt library, voice input and text search, narration is useful too. The app is local-first and works right in the browser, no sign up needed and it's absolutely free to try. BYOAK – bring your own API Keys. Let me…

I previously did a Show HN late Dec 2020: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25470672 That was a great experience and in the past year I continued to develop the site to bring it to a level of stability and maturity that I felt necessary for it to have a chance to succeed. Sqwok is all about answering the question: Can we have better open conversations on the internet? I wasn’t satisfied with the existing means of discussing topics such as culture, history, politics, and technology through threaded comments, and was simultaneously impressed with Slack bringing the IRC…

This is something fun I’ve been hacking on recently: ridiculously simple group chat. Go to http://faces.io and then get your friends to do the same. That’s it! :-D Currently works best in Chrome. It’s definitely beta status at best. Audio can get weird—be ready to mute. ;-) Let me know what you think!

I hope you are doing better today than yesterday. (TLDR in the comments; or enjoy my story :) ) Why: About 11 months ago, I launched my app for the first time on Reddit's r/lonely because I had previously experienced loneliness myself during grad school. I wanted to reach out to people going through similar experiences by providing them with what would’ve helped me in the past. I felt this was an important mission for me and a much more rewarding one than my day job that I quit my job to work on the app full-time. It was necessary because I did not come from a programming background. I…

Hi HN, I’m Billy, co-founder of ChatterBooth. It’s an anonymous app where people can talk or chat freely without judgment. The idea came in 2020 when one of my co-founders wanted to share about his mom’s cancer recovery but couldn’t. It made us realize how hard it is to open up online. Finally, we released the app earlier this year. We’ve also noticed people venting to AI chatbots just to be heard, but AI doesn’t really get you. ChatterBooth is for real human connection, even if it’s anonymous. In the future, if there’s enough traction, we want to reward people as Conversation Starters or…

Hi HN, For years I’ve missed the feeling of an always-on chatroom without the silos and social overhead of Discord. So I built Together: a single-room, no-signup group chat that you join with one click. No channels, no rules (yet), no onboarding flow. Everyone lands in the same place and can start talking in under a second. Why I made it - Forums and blog comments are great but slow; Discord/Slack feel heavy for casual drop-ins if you aren’t already a member of a community. - I wanted the simplest possible space where ~100 people could idle, share shower thoughts, and keep the…

I’ve been playing around with local LLMs for the past couple of months and decided to build something that can run on an iPhone. It’s a universal app built with SwiftUI and the excellent ggml library. The model is an SFT fine tuned and 4 bit quantised version of the RedPajama-INCITE-Chat-3B-v1 OSS LLM. It works reasonably well on recent-ish (~3 year old) iPhones, iPads and Macs. It was launched on the App Store yesterday[1] and Product Hunt today[2]. It seems to be reasonably ok at natural language interactions, but given its size, does pretty badly at coding and reasoning. Also, it…

Hey HN, I've been a long time HN reader and here is my first contribution. Hoodsup.me is a chat-based matchmaking app built on top of your Facebook social graph. It matchmakes you with people who are geographically close to you and with whom you share common points. You can optionally activate your webcam to talk face-to-face with your partner. Think of it as a Sonar meets a genital-free Chatroulette. I would love to get some feedback. It's only optimized for WebKit for now. No signup is required so just stop by and say hi! :) Clickable link: <a…

Hey HN, My co-founders and I have been working on a project for the last month or so, and we'd like to get your input on it. We wanted to hear your thoughts on what we're doing - so check out our landing page, and let us know what you think/understand. Does it sounds like something you guys would want to use? http://www.thesharedweb.com/alpha/intro We'll tell you guys more about exactly what we're doing as the conversation evolves, but we just wanted to see what the initial reaction is, and what you understand (i.e. are we describing it in a way that makes sense). Really excited to hear your…

Hey everyone, ChatGPT recently added a very small but powerful feature - the ability to share your chats! I think it’s a great way to create prototypes and share them, here are a couple of examples: First, [a small talk simulator](https://chat.openai.com/share/1329d8ec-5141-45f9-a2c2-842d4bad7bcc) a game to help you improve your social skills. Second, [a shark tank simulator](https://chat.openai.com/share/48155efe-101b-4662-b41e-c13aa909f017), see if your idea and pitch can get a deal on ABCs hit show! [Here’s my…

So I've been obsessed with a weird question for the past 6 months, what happens to SEO when everyone starts asking ChatGPT for recommendations instead of Googling? The answer, apparently, is chaos. And maybe opportunity? I built FirstClick because I noticed something strange. My previous startup was getting zero traffic from AI assistants, but our competitor (objectively worse product, sorry not sorry) was getting mentioned by Claude and Perplexity constantly. It drove me crazy. So I reverse engineered why. Turns out there's a whole new game being played and most founders don't even know it…

Hey HN, A buddy and I have been working on a side project in the online community space in our free time over the past few years. Our platform is a sort of Discord/Reddit/Patreon hybrid. Decided to do a soft launch today in light of all the recent Reddit news. Community features: 1. Customizable discussion boards. Community owners can setup threaded discussion boards for different topics related to their niche. Say a user creates a community for a niche like "Cars", under that community they could create different discussion boards for sub categories like "Car-mods", "Car-photos",…

TLDR: Video chat with realistic AI persons: https://app.vivalabs.ai/chat Hey AI enthusiasts, After GPT’s Advanced Voice Mode launch, we’re more excited than ever about authentic conversations with AI. We think the next frontier will be incorporating video feeds. On VivaChat, you can video chat with an AI therapist, digital marketing consultant, English language tutor, or a tech recruiter. We’re also beginning to support business use cases around customer support, HR, and education. Building this was a blast! We strung together multiple systems to coordinate an entire…

Hello HN, I built Teamates.io[0] - a place for professionals to have small coffee chats with a random partner right now. Think of it like a virtual coffeeshop where you can chat with strangers while you're taking a little break. It's in open beta and you can try using it right now. Please be nice and professional to each other :) I noticed over the course of pandemic I missed random coffee chats with my coworkers and random chats with strangers. I think it's important to have these unplanned conversations. I would really appreciate the feedback from you all, since I believe it's a pretty…

OmnyChat▲7Hey all, During Christmas and new year I was building this app day and night, I basically built it for my own use, I've got so much headache switching between tabs of different LLMs and chatbots, and other ai chat apps were missing some features that I really really wanted: - be able to chat with multiple models at once - be able to do debate with multiple models so thats why I built it, I launched it 2 days ago, 0 users so far, I really appreciate any feedbacks. I offer free plan with 20 message / day in some cheap models (I'm indie dev with no budget) and 2 plans that gives you higher…

Hi HN, I over-thought one too many “lol sounds fun” texts and decided to teach a model to be my wingman instead. The result is Crush Check AI —export an iMessage / WhatsApp / Instagram thread and get a chat report with: * crush score (0-100) based on response latency, reciprocity, sentiment shifts. * red flags like like breadcrumbing / love-bombing * chat timeline. You can also ask questions about your conversation. Why post here I’d love feedback on: * whether this is something people need. * how was the user experience. * what features would you like to see. Thanks in…

I’ve never been a natural at the dating game, often seeking advice from friends who just seemed to get it. That's why a friend and I developed Hazel AI for people like me. It's like having that savvy friend in your Telegram (and soon WhatsApp) who's always there to give you a second opinion on conversations and profiles. We also want to try to counter the current culture of cluttered apps that trap you in subscription mazes and use dark patterns to keep you hooked: - Instant Chatting: Start chatting with Hazel on Telegram right away—no need to sign up. - Free to Try: Dive in without any…

Hey all - We wanted to see if chatbots could self-develop unique personalities through social media interactions. The results were actually hilarious... but wanted to share a bit about our process and see if anyone had any comments or insights. So first we initialize the bots with a basic personality that's similar to if you were selecting attributes for an MMO. Things like intelligence, toxicity, charisma and the like. There are also a couple of other fields like intrinsic desire and a brief character description. These are fed to the model as a system prompt with each inference. For the…
