Hey HN I’ve been thinking a lot about barriers to civic participation. Most people don’t show up to town halls. They don’t respond to traditional surveys. And a lot of online political spaces feel loud, adversarial, or exhausting. So I started wondering what happens if you make participation radically lightweight. That’s where Civie comes in. Each day you answer one to three short civic questions. It takes under a minute. Responses are anonymous. Results are shown only in aggregate. Over time, those responses accumulate into an open dataset anyone can explore. This isn’t scientific polling,…

I have always loved geography, and due to my childhood interest in football, I learned a lot of country flags. A lot, but not all of them! So, I decided to make a free game for anyone who enjoys flags and wants to improve their knowledge. You can compete against others because each game is timed. Have fun!

Hi HN, I'm Jacek, the solo founder behind this project (Lustra). The Problem: 95% of legislation goes unnoticed because raw legal texts are unreadable. Media coverage is optimized for outrage, not insight. The Solution. I built a digital public infrastructure that: 1. Ingests & Sterilizes: Parses raw bills (PDF/XML) from US & PL APIs. Uses LLMs (Vertex AI, temp=0, strict JSON) to strip political spin. 2. Civic Algorithm: The main feed isn't sorted by an editorial board. It's sorted by user votes ("Shadow Parliament"). What the community cares about rises to the top. 3. Civic Projects:…

Recently moved to Egypt, and in dire need to get the numbers down. Great excuse to explore learning software some more. Possibly very niche, but maybe it is useful for someone else out there. Feedback is always welcome.

I saw this app youlearn.ai on YC and thought of building it. They are claiming to have 1M+ users with just one feature which is to convert your learning material into summaries, quizzes etc. I gave this a shot and cloned almost most of the features in just 9+ hours of continous vibe coding (with 20% manual though). Now I'm selling this on mvp marketplace. Might probably open source it in future or give it free.

Over the weekend we built Parliament Wow. It's hacky, buggy and slightly broken but it does the job :) Parliament Wow makes it easy to find out what is going on in parliament and what it actually means for you and me. We know that nobody has the time to watch hours of debates, drown in legal paperwork or keep up with the implications of every vote. Not me or you and least of all your MPs. There is just too much data. So we made a solution. We paired some semantic search with every publicly accessible document, audio recording or transcript we could get our hands on + some generative models…

I haven't seen anything like this so I decided to build it in a weekend. How it works: You see a bunch of things pulled from Wikipedia displayed on cards. You ask yes or no questions to figure out which card is the secret article. The AI model has access to the image and wiki text and it's own knowledge to answer your question. Happy to have my credits burned for the day but I'll probably have to make this paid at some point so enjoy. I found it's not easy to get cheap+fast+good responses but the tech is getting there. Most of the prompts are running through Groq infra or hitting a cache…

Hi HN, For 4 years I've worked on the psychology of learning following a CompSci degree with an AI minor from back in 2019. I love the future of effective learning that is coming. This is a way for you to study for specific exams, lectures and videos. You upload your content, and get specific, citing flashcard exercises delivered in a fun way. Not only can you view the timestamp in the video that a question was generated from, for example, but your answers are used to inform a "Compilation stage". The Compilation stage uses your choices of answers (and wrong answers), as well as data on when…

I had an idea for this concept for a while and decided to build a little website around it. It's kind of a silly idea but I'm really curious to see how it plays out. If you're a particularly curious person, be warned. By submitting a payment to the game, you get to see how many other people were curious enough to play. You will be ranked based on your payment amount, and get to discover some interesting insights about the game's dynamics. Hope you like it
