Products that do what Correlation between number of facebook likes and winner of an election does
A quick weekend side project. I am curious if the like count of a candidate for office can predict if they will win. For the past month or so I have been tracking the likes of several campaigns. Today I put a prettier face on it. http://cmpgns.net/ After the election I will do a quick analysis of the races and see if anything interesting turns up. If anyone adds a candidate I'm missing, I'll go in and add their opponent

I've been wanting a "pro-feel" Twitter stats dashboard for a while now. Inspired by Geckoboard I built TweetBoard.me If you're a Twitter power user you might like it :) Looks best in full screen! Note: There were problems when first launched but now it should be working at the real address: http://TweetBoard.me (Not working on mobile)

Ever wanted to track who unfollowed you last month? Or who followed your competitor last month? Or how your social graph is growing over time? SocialGrapple does this. I've been working on SocialGrapple for a few months (since stepping down from imoveyou.com, YC2010S), this week I got the core product to the point where I'm proud of it so I want to show it off: http://socialgrapple.com/ I wrote up a blog post with some screenshots that will get you an idea of what SocialGrapple looks like: "SocialGrapple snapshot: @limedaring's social graph growth after her HackerNews publicity"…

In 2008, I did some calculations to estimate the probability of Obama or McCain winning the election, using state poll results, and plotted the probabilities vs time, right up to the election. The results were quite interesting. So, this year, I'm doing the same for the 2012 elections, and have put it all up on: http://prespredict.com I include both 2012 and 2008 results, and make an attempt to see how they correlate with campaign events and national news stories. There is also a section where I describe the methodology. Let me know what you think [P.S. I used bootstrap to get the site up…

Votizen is working to remove the influence of money in politics by making political decision-making more peer-to-peer. We're using Twitter and our API to pull tweets from only registered voters, and showing how the discussion breaks down among the parties. This has never been done before as far as I know, not even by the major media outlets. Please check it out and let me know what you think. If people are interested, we'll work to improve it for the further debates and campaigns.

Hi HN! I built this after seeing several references to Election Truth Alliance on social media, and after reading their analysis, I just couldn't get the problems I saw in it out of my head. So I downloaded the data, and rebuilt their full analysis from scratch. Their critical error is a simple misunderstanding of the Law of Large Numbers: values collected in large samples converge to the true probability in the sample distribution. (not to be confused with the Law of Very Large Numbers: which states that unlikely things happen given enough time. That confused me too) Technical Details: - No…

I was lucky enough to have my site trending on Friday (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25872922). It’s an icon site that lists open source icons. I wanted to share some stats on the results after 3 days. Worth noting was that I submitted it on a Friday morning (at which point I went for a walk and a coffee; eek). - 24,997 page views. I (embarrassingly) didn’t have GA set up when I first submitted it, so this is probably missing a few hundred page views - 21 “feedback” emails (half of which were spam). I assume such a high percentage of these were spam because my Feedback…

Hey HN! The idea for this started when I came across the election forecast of FiveThirthyEight [1]. They show a 1000 different possible election outcomes - each one possible. In this newspaper homepage, I try to turn these simulations into reality by feeding AI with as much detailed information about a simulation as I can (e.g. voting results per state). See source code here [2]. The whole process is explained in more depth in my blog post: https://nerology.substack.com/p/how-i-made-the-probability-t... [1]…

I recently launched my first web app, polls.io. It's a super simple polling app that doesn't require sign-up. In my opinion, this is the most simple/social polling app out there. There are certainly many similar apps out there, but I think this one stands out as it straight-forward and doesn't have any unnecessary "mess" getting in the way of the actual poll. From idea to inception this took about a week. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. We'll be listening to feedback in the coming days/weeks in order to make the proper changes. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts and feedback!…

I have been running my side project for about over a year now and it has finally logged 1 million votes! The site gets on average, for the past 3 months, 600 users a day with an average bounce rate of 47%. Majority of the traffic comes through StumbleUpon. I posted about the site a while back here http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1338487 Site: http://faveone.com
