I wanted to have a framework that would let me build web apps faster than ever before. I didn’t care if it was a little hacky or didn’t use best practices — I wanted to be able to get a multi-user application out the door in hours instead of months. I researched the CMS space for months before deciding to build something from scratch. My goal was to be 90% done building a web app once I had the static HTML and CSS finished. I’m not a big fan of building out API endpoints over and over again for every new app, fiddling with a database, or doing lots of config. What I ended up with was a…

We did a "Show HN post" 6 months back of our startup and we're very excited to show everyone how far we've come as well as the lessons we've learnt so far! It's been a roller-coaster so far and we think there's lot more of the same to come! We did apply for Ycombinator funding but got turned down :( But may re-apply soon :) For those that don't know, our startup is called Scirra and we make Construct 2 which is an HTML5 game engine (http://www.scirra.com). Our engine allows anyone to make HTML5 games without knowing any programming. It's only me and my brother working on this and we're based…

It took me about a week to vibe code this 3D game engine with Opus 4.6 that I intend to use as a replacement for Three.js and React Three Fiber in my browser MMORPG, Mana Blade. I was not expecting to be able to reach that point so easily, but pretty much every feature took somewhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour - 1 to 3 prompts on average. It is vibe-coded in the sense that I haven't looked at the code, but I am very careful with my prompts and constantly have Claude reviewing the codebase, looking for performance and code quality improvements. It can reach 2000 draw calls on recent…

I'm the developer. Happy to share the process and learnings. Architecture: - Custom SoA ECS for cache-friendly iteration, zero allocations in hot loops. Benchmarked against bitECS/miniplex. - Process manager inspired by Game Code Complete's but data-oriented so processes are pure data, systems contain the logic. - Multi-field gravity with 5 types (point, parallel, segment, cylinder, convex hull) with spring-damped transitions between fields. - Rapier3D WASM with SIMD. Gravity-aware fake shadow system for playability. - WebGL 2 shared context between Three.js and Pixi.js. - Debug editor…

About a year ago me and a buddy joined Google's HTML5GameJam, a game building hackathon. Finally I've had the time to dust the project off, upgrade some of the required libraries (node.js bumped from 0.4.2 to 0.8.11 in the meantime) and did some minor patching to get it done for some finishing touches and hopefully release somewhere this year. We implemented the full real Tetris® (yeah, that means T-Spins and funky stuff Tetris addicts like) in MVC, with configurable renderers (canvas, ASCII, Divs), input methods (keyboard, swipe, touch), 2player split mode and offline singeplayer. The…

Hi Hackernews, I’m Marvin from playrun.dev (https://playrun.dev), a platform for generating end-to-end tests for your application using just the URL. I recently worked on a project rewrite with a small team on a tight deadline. We needed to keep shipping while also writing tests for the application. We believed unit tests were a waste of time and decided e2e tests were the way to go, but doing so manually was still time-consuming and made shipping slower. Testing is one of those things we do as engineers that don’t have immediate ROI, and it was almost impossible to make the…
