Been going for about three years now on the side, learned to code in Rails from Michael Hartl's book, got help from friends and have been getting tons of feedback. I find using Uservoice's idea generation tool was the best along with emailing all customers a few days after they register to get feedback. I've just launched a landing page for an ebook that I hope to have out sometime in June but I feel like that dog in the meme "I have no idea what I'm doing."[1] I am not a designer (or copywriter) but I've been hanging out on HN long enough to have a good idea where to go for help. www.asktheroom.com is a free app I made over the last few weekends for including polls in presentations. It's minimalist, but seems to work pretty well. I was very pleased with the URL!
