Products that do what Flat – a minimalist teamwork app that protects focus (live demo) does
Hi HN! We're Seth, Andrew, & Marcin. After a decade of wanting a simple, lightweight teamwork tool and not finding one, we decided to build one ourselves. You can try out what we're building in a sandbox demo here: https://try.flat.app. We’re calling it Flat, and we have two main goals: 1. Everyone can figure it out in just a few minutes, from the intern to the zero-patience CEO. 2. It doesn’t create extra work for anybody. Everything written in Flat would have been written somewhere anyway; Flat just provides an obvious, consistent place to put it. If you check out the demo,…

Hi HN! Flat’s a lot like Trello, but with a cleaner, simpler, friendlier UI and real discussion threads. Flat also sports a first-class GitHub integration. To take it for a spin without signing up, just go to https://try.flat.app. And there’s also a quick demo video here: https://youtu.be/NW2c9cZVaD0 We made Flat for ourselves, after a decade of wanting a simple, lightweight tool to stay on top of our work and not finding one. Trello is close, but we find it really frustrating to use in lots of ways. And most everything else is way too complex. We think there’s a…

Hi HN! I'm Kam, the founder and one of the authors of Linen. Today, we are launching Linen.team (https://linen.team/), a lightweight threaded messaging app for your team. Modern workplace messaging apps (like Slack) are based on IRC, which is great for small groups, but as it scales, breaks down quickly: you either get overwhelmed by notifications or you have to turn them all off. Most chat apps have threads tacked on but aren't built from the ground up with this design in mind. We wanted to create a thread-first experience where you can organize and prioritize conversations…

Hey HN friends, I keep getting distracted working from home and always end up watching youtube, browsing blogs like HN or just mindlessly scrolling then I feel like crap because I didn’t do enough. I went through dozens of productivity tools but they’re quite overwhelming to use and none of them actually helped me focus. So I built http://complish.ai, a web-based sidebar that helps me focus on one task at a time. I launched it last month and have over 3,000 users now and I’ll be keeping it free. Would love for you all to try and give some feedback!

We created Slash (https://getslash.co/hn) after realizing that todo list apps are hopelessly broken. They're great at making lists, but offer you no help in crossing them off. In fact, they often create even more stress when you're staring at a list 100 items longs. Slash is a task "do-er" that helps you CRUSH your list by focusing on one task at a time. Quickly enter your tasks, hit 'Start', and the window shrinks down to a small always-on-top window that shows your current task and how long you've been working on it. When you're done, hover over the task name and click…

Kshitij and Rahul here. We're building Playground, an open-source sandbox that lets your non-technical teams prototype directly on production codebases, without bugging you (developers) to spin up and maintain another repo. The repo is here: https://github.com/B1u3B01t/design-playground. We've been working together for six years. Last year we built an AI design agent because we thought designers were the biggest bottleneck. But we were wrong. After talking to teams, we realised designers, PMs, founders and even sales people all wanted to quickly change and explore flows…

This is an app to easily manage a workload of multiple projects and to ease collaboration between teams. We built it on weekends whilst running our agency and it’s still very much in development. I’m posting it because I’m interested on what HNers think we should focus on next: * A ‘client view’ of each project? * Project level permissions to allow freelancers to access particular projects? * Estimates vs Actuals – see how they compare and use this data to predict future delivery times. You can sign up for a free lifetime account at the moment. Please comment if you have any feedback or…

(Or really, any meeting that's more "download of information" than "let's collaborate") It's called All Hands, and we've launched today: https://allhands.app The idea is that instead of pressing the big red stop button on the side of your business every week in order to keep everyone up-to-date, you instead schedule in and pre-record the things they need to know. All Hands does the workflow part, lets you include other people (so it's easy to have different people presenting), makes recording easy (all in the browser, no extensions - MediaRecorder is cool!), and then does the…

Hey HN! - As you go into the weekend check out Uni (https://uni.fyi), we recently came out of closed beta and are excited to share what we’ve built to help remote teams involve the right people from their teams to make smart decisions! We’re an early-stage spinout from Cornell Tech and we see decision making as a natural wedge to actualizing inclusion within companies. Since there are no go-to products out there which facilitate this process fully, decision makers often-times become overwhelmed and frustrated with including people in their decision process resulting in an exclusive…

I was unhappy with the Crunchbase UI so I wrote a web app with a clean and minimal UI. I thought you guys would enjoy it. It's alphaish, but usable.

Hi everyone I wanted to share an app I built recently. It's very much an MVP but I think it's solving a problem that many companies face in a simple, low-touch way. Here's the pitch: ---------------- There's a secret sauce to running a healthy and productive company that is widely overlooked. Your team is the beating heart of your company, but all too often your people don't know your people. Companies lack a single place to look up who's who, what they do, and what they've been working on. I built Teamlight to fix that! Teamlight is a simple, beautiful showcase for your people and their…

I built this app in less than 4 hours over a busy and noisy weekend to help me stay focused while studying, during my college days. Since then I have been maintaining this open source project. Its been quite a fruitful and enjoyable ride. Hope you all like it :)

Hello HN! I got pretty overwhelmed with Notion, Trello, etc. (Even though they are great tools!) as an indie dev, so I built an app that is simpler to use and perfectly suited for an indie like me :) You can basically divide your projects into multiple milestones (a milestone could be e.g. a new version), and the milestones can have multiple tasks that are either todo, in progress, or done. The progress for each milestone is calculated with those tasks, and you can also prioritize and categorize the tasks using tags (E.g. for me, #ph turns into "High Priority", and #pm into "Medium…

Frameloop is an AI-powered video creation and automation tool, that turns ideas into publishable videos within seconds. I've been working on this for past 4 months now, and have few paying customers as well. Most of them are individual creators, and about 20% are businesses. I'd like to focus more on business users going forwards, and am building branded video features for businesses. There are many other tools at this point, but my focus has been to focus on great UX, and giving users a really good first draft, which is easily editable. And I think that focus is what differentiates us. Try…

Mond is a tiny chrome extension that kindly ask you to choose what you want to do before having an Internet session. Based on your choice, it will open in advance / block webs to save you lots of manual actions and prevent distraction. This is a product I made to solve my own problem and I been using it for about 2 months before releasing it. Look forward to your feedbacks folks.

Hey! I have been building CoderScreen, an alternative to coding interview platforms. I thought it was an interesting product to build with the evolution with all the sandbox products coming our for code execution, as well as me never being satisfied with existing platforms. The current features are: - Live interviews for pair programming exercises - Assessments for async technical screening It is built on Cloudflare primitives such as Workers, Durable Objects for the multiplayer experience, Sandbox for the code execution. Would love to get feedback on the current product, as well as hear…
