TinyFast▲319I am a developer. I have been building stuff for the last 13 years. One common challenge in all my projects is compressing assets to make them as small as possible. I used to end up using online compressors, but this has a lot of privacy concerns. So, I finally set down for couple of weeks and built this simple app. I can just drag and drop assets in it and it shrinks them. It currently supports around 25 file types. I built a lot of iOS apps but this is the first time building a macOS app, so any feedback is welcome.

My Downloads folder had been left unkept for a really long time and cleaning it up using Finder was quite cumbersome. So I started creating a simple app to help me filter out and delete or move the files in the folder. It started out very basic and the filtering options genuinely helped me clean out the Downloads folder, then as I thought of more features I would like to see in a file manager I started to add them. Some of the features are: - Fuzzy go to folder/file where you only need to write a few letters of a full path, get suggestions and can jump to the correct path instantly -…

FileFillet▲176Hi HN, I’d like to share FileFillet, a macOS app I created to help organize files more quickly. By setting up your favorite folders, you can quickly access them while dragging files (or folders) for copy/move operations, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple Finder windows just to move a file from A to B.

Move dotfiles to ~/.config/lnk, get symlinks back, use Git normally. Single binary, no config files, no fluff. Built because chezmoi was too complex and plain Git was too manual.

Hi HN, I made Fallinorg, a local macOS app that organizes files by their meaning, not just their name or type. Problem: My Downloads and Desktop folders kept filling up with cryptically named, duplicate, or unrelated files. Over time, cleaning up and finding the right file became a pain. Solution: Fallinorg uses Sentence Transformers (SBERT) to understand the content and context of files, then automatically groups them. It runs fully offline, so you can safely classify sensitive files (finance, medical, personal, etc.). On Apple Silicon, it parses, tokenizes, and categorizes a file in about…

Bello! Made this to help navigate the tumultuous process of navigating to a new machine on Mac when you have a number of custom utilities setup for editing particular files. This is designed to make that as easy as possible, and add some magic on top of that, like setting mailto handlers or anything else of that breed. Use XDG_CONFIG_HOME to keep it organized. Credit to https://github.com/moretension/duti for the original inspiration for the project. Happy to answer and help with whatever.

Hey HN! I'm excited to share f2, a command-line tool I built for fast and flexible bulk renaming of files. It's cross-platform (Linux, macOS, Windows), executes a dry-run by default, supports undo, and provides incredible flexibility in file renaming with several built-in variables and Exiftool integration. If you've ever struggled with renaming large batches of files or wished for more control and speed when managing file names, this might be just what you need. I hope you find it useful!

Bash4LLM is a single-file Bash wrapper for interacting with LLMs from the terminal. I created it because I wanted something simple that worked without installing Python, Node, or any other runtime. It uses only Bash, curl, and jq. You can send prompts, start a small chat, process files line by line, stream output, and save session metadata in JSON format. I tried to make it safe and predictable: no use of the system /tmp, no use of eval. Groq is supported by default, and other providers can be added with dedicated Bash scripts in the extras/providers/ folder. Example: echo…
