GNUplot with sixel is a plotting tool that combines traditional data visualization with image embedding and colored terminal output. It lets users create graphs and charts while incorporating images and ANSI color… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. This program provides a simple way of visualizing the different regions of a binary file. Written in C, depends only on libpng. Currently (commit 1dd42e3) it is able to generate PNG images that represent various aspects of the binary: - Grayscale: Byte values, 00..FF. - Ascii: Printability of each byte. - Entropy: Of a "block", changed with --block-size. - Histogram: Bar graph of the byte frequencies. - Bigrams: Each point is determined by a pair of bytes. - Dotplot: Measure self-similarity. Image width/height is N^2. In the future, I plan on adding an SDL version that allows the user…

Hello HN. I've always found writing data visualisation scripts boring and repetitive in data science workflows earlier in my career, so I built this tool to automate it. The available methods are based on my experience in econometrics where histograms and scatterplots were the starting points to check data distributions. The link is to the documentation and the app is freely available at https://visprex.com, and if you're curious about the implementation it's open source at https://github.com/visprex/visprex. I'd appreciate any comments and feedback!

I do lots of data analyses in the command-line and I was missing a simple utility to plot the output of a command (without having to script it). I like very much the Matplotlib API but I found no CLI to pipe data into it. So, I wrote MatplotCLI, a simple CLI that reads data from the stdin and allows to easily create interactive plots from the command-line. Have a look at the README for examples and recipes. Let me know what you think, thanks! Some examples: $ plt "hist(x,30)" < sample.json $ cat sample.json | plt --no-show "hist(x,30); savefig('myimage.png')" $ plt --no-input " x =…

Just wanted to share with HN a simple/minimal open source Python library that generates SVG files visualizing two dimensional data and distributions, in case others find it useful or interesting. I wrote it as a fun project, mostly because I found that the standard libraries in Python generated unnecessarily large SVG files. One nice property is that I can configure the visuals through CSS, which allows me to support dark/light mode browser settings. The graphs are specified as JSON files (the repository includes a few examples). It supports scatterplots, line plots, histograms,…

I was fascinated by this [0] and this video [1]. After many struggles, I finally built this app that traces images using circles similar to what these videos had shown. The most challenging part (to me) is to find a way to convert images to vector lines. I had tried Potrace, but its output is not suitable for my use case: too many small elements share the same border. Potrace's goal is to represent the original image faithfully using vector lines. But I want to trace the image edges. After searching and trying some Potrace alternatives in vain, I finally found my keyword. Surprisingly (to…
