Wanted to share a project I've been working on. Basically lets you drive an RC car remotely over the internet with live FPV video. I'm arranging outdoor time attack tournaments with friends, somewhere in woods or in the open field. This is the current iteration of the car: http://i.imgur.com/ko8YBh.jpg Details: I wrote a simple android app that streams the accelerometer data from the phone to the pi over a simple socket. This is a projected I started that blends both the fun of playing a split screen multiplayer driving game and controlling real rc cars. The cars can also be controlled via bluetooth gamepads and is meant to be easily hackable.

I have been taking Andrew Ng's Machine Learning course. The lecture module on Neural Networks ends with an intriguing video of the ALVINN autonomous car driving itself along normal roads at CMU in the mid 90s. I was inspired by that video to see what I could build myself. A link to my incomplete write up was posted a couple of weeks ago (ouch!) but I finally finished it and open sourced the code tonight (so you can build your own self driving car). Found that you can actually run a 35B Qwen model on a Pi with very impressive intelligence and stability. Built connectors for car ODB to read all about car internals, and manufacturer's cloud service for stuff like changing AC or opening/ locking doors. Gave it info such as the full car manual. And then hooked it up with my other agents in our discussion room! This is the third camera I've designed/made around the raspberry pi parts/ecosystem. The repo has all the STL files, parts list, most wiring diagrams. The first one was the custom Pi Zero HQ cam which was featured on a Hackaday article/podcast. The modular version (aside from being able to swap cameras) mostly has the latest software. - This page is running directly on the Pico W in the stream, using microdot (but proxied out via cloudflare tunnel). - There's a buzzer that plays a sound as well but the stream has no audio. - There's a Pi Zero 2 W with a Camera Module 3 streaming the video. Streaming low latency video is painful. I tried mjpeg, Nginx+HLS/DASH, YouTube and Twitch. Twitch is definitely the easiest and best-performing. - There's still a few seconds delay between sending your message and the video updating.
