Hi, I wanted to share a simple game I wrote. It's a sliding pieces puzzle like many others. I have focused a lot on making the experience smooth and minimalistic and the levels being challenging in a way a sudoku or chess puzzles could be. I had no prior knowledge of game development and while it feels like someone competent could build this game in a week I spent over two years and hundreds of hours to bring this game to life. My journey went through: - thinking it will be a PC game - being overwhelmed by the amount of different game frameworks - hiring an indie dev to bootstrap the game in…

I continue my experiment of transposing classic games onto an irregular grid. I've previously released variants of minesweeper and checkers. And now I'd like to share my variant of Chess. Chess can be a pretty punishing game, but I thought this was nevertheless a way to make it even more challenging by making it trickier to anticipate your opponent, even though both players still have the same information. From the playtests I've done, that challenge is pretty compelling. It also seems to be more fun at 2 people, where both players keep surprising one another.

When I was in high school, my dad showed me how to play Knight Tour on a piece of paper. Many years passed before I decided to create the Knight's Graph app. “Knight's Graph” is an intellectual puzzle game based on the classic knight tour problem, known since the 18th century. Your task is to move the chess knight across the board so that each square is visited exactly once. Test your logical and strategic skills in an exciting game where every game is a new challenge! The app is already available for download on the App Store. Google Play will be available a little later. App Store:…

I’ve been working on a puzzle game for a few years as a side project. The game is based on a small region of tiles in a grid that is mirrored, modified, and mirrored again. It’s based on a novel phenomenon I noticed where, once these mutations happen a few times, the original region can be hard to recognize. You have a feeling there are symmetries in the image, but they are just out of grasp. Going further, if only part of the region is visible, such as mirroring off the edge of the board, it adds to the feeling and it becomes a satisfying puzzle to solve. I originally published this on the…

I've been having fun building out a really simple chess learning app for my daughter (7). It started with just "maze like" puzzles [1] and I've added a few more. This "radioactive pooping knights" idea came from an Irish primary school chess website [2]. Really simple idea, two knights moving around the board leaving poo behind... Don't be the one forced to step on it. * best played with sound on. [1]. https://minichessgames.com/#/movement/knight [2]. https://ficheall.ie/ *highly subjective, may not be better for you to play with sound at all ;) p.s.…

Hey there! I just finished a youtube video explaining our donut chess in detail: https://youtu.be/iRcfHCPFgkM So I thought it'd be cool to show it off here too- it can be played around with at mchess.io/donut - you can also set up an AI or online game on the site. This is all indie dev work from a couple friends and myself.

Hi HN, I've been working on this Sudoku web app for the past couple of years, on and off during free weekends and afternoons. I started working on it because I was bored during COVID, and Cracking the Cryptic had just become popular on YouTube, which got me wondering how hard it could be to make a Sudoku app. The main idea is for the app to understand the constraints and know how to solve Sudoku grids (and not just be a simple Sudoku drawing/playing app). When it comes to classic Sudoku, the solver doesn't support anything more complicated than X-Wing, but it understands the…
