Products that do what I made an Animal Crossing style letter editor does
I made a simple open-source letter editor inspired by Animal Crossing NH. Took me forever to look over each card, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. You can even click the bottle in the bottom right to see a random letter design shared by other users! Now to see how long it stays up... Hi HN, I’ve been working on a small project that transforms handwritten notes into animated, shareable cards. While the create functionality isn’t live yet, I wanted to share a sneak peek by creating a handwritten Christmas card specifically for the HN community. I started thinking about this after seeing too many AI-generated cards, cookie-cutter email templates, and overly polished designs that lack any personal touch. A friend recently sent me a handwritten card in the mail, and I found it nice that he took his time to write a handwritten note. I wanted to capture that same feeling…

Hi HN community! We want to share AI-town, a deployable starter kit for building and customizing your own version of AI simulation - a virtual town where AI characters live, chat and socialize. Inspired by great work from the Stanford Generative Agent paper (https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.03442). A few features: - Includes a convex.dev backed server-side game engine that handles global state - Multiplayer ready. Deployment ready - 100% Typescript - Easily customizable. You can fork it, change character memories, add new sprites/tiles and you have a custom AI simulation…

Hey HN, I recently made 3d style Bagel web font (with some more styles) from scratch, and wanted to share the process in case anyone's interested in experimenting or giving feedback. You can play around by typing https://www.bake-ai.com/fonts [Backstory] I was experimenting with Stable Diffusion + ControlNet to generate icons. To my surprise, generating letters this way was actually better than using traditional 3D tools like Blender for this purpose. That led to the idea: what if I could turn into an actual real working font? I found a few tools, but most were either paid or…

Hi everybody. I occasionally make little browser-based games, and this is my latest attempt. It's not quite done, but it's quite playable (note: it does include audio): https://www.omiword.com/ This has been my occasional tinker target for ~5 years now, starting in the early days of Covid. The objective is to drag letter tiles within certain boundaries to spell four common American-English words. It hasn't got ads or anything, it's just supposed to be fun for its own sake. If people happen to like it, I might add an option for folks to make a small, one-time payment to unlock…

I tried to train text to video and image to video models to generate 2D game animations. I used public game animation data and 3D mixamo model rendered animations to train the animation generation models. I'm open sourcing the model, training data, training code and data generation code. More technical details can be found in my blog (https://www.gavinliblog.com/posts/godmodeanimation).

I had a lot of fun with this one. She's used it several times, and I watch, to see what subtle bugs or ux issues there may be. And when she gets on the bus I fix them quickly before work. It's been a fun game to create where it gives here immediate feedback and she's willing to study more. Her test is this Friday. fingers crossed that it helped her!

Hey HN community, I'm excited to share with you an application I've been working on that can help you create beautiful and personalized greeting cards, social media images, and event invitations with the power of AI. With the application, you can easily generate custom greeting cards for all occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, and holidays, simply by providing a prompt. You can also create social media images and posts for all major platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit, to promote your events, product launches, or successful feature releases. The application uses advanced…

Hi HN! I made an app that takes a photo of a paper drawing and, in a handful of seconds, creates a fully rigged character that can be used in an animation or little story. It doesn’t use any image-to-video generative AI models. Instead, I built it using the years of insights I’ve picked up studying children’s drawings and character animation. Today we’re releasing a community beta. I respect this community and would value any feedback you offer. It’s easy to try- you don’t need to create an account to check it out. We’ve got several free stories to drop your character into, and a Mother’s…

I wouldn't throw away the diffusion models just yet though. ``` prompt: Show me an example of ASCII art, depicting a cat. response: /_/\ / o o \ ( " ) ~()~/ / \ | | / | | \ / ~~/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |…

Just published my personal website v1 with some 8-bit style design that gives people nostalgia. Check it out at https://yzhx.xyz/. You can also find the source code on my GitHub. Here are couple of takeaways from the project: - It is a Next.js app built from the template (https://github.com/chronark/chronark.com). I made many changes, but I appreciate the components that came with the template! - The pixel art in the background is from Brandon James Greer on YouTube (https://youtu.be/cxjX8O6YSHI). Please do check out their work on YouTube;…

Think Notepad, but with goats! It started as a joke with some friends and then I realized this was the perfect project to see far I could get with Claude without opening my IDE (which I'd wanted to try for a while with a small app) I was pretty shocked to find that I only needed to manually intervene for: 1. Initializing the repo 2. Generating sprites - I tried a few image gen tools, but couldn't get a non-messy looking sprite to generate to my liking. I ended up using some free goat sprites I found instead (credited in the About section) 3. Uploading images/sprite sheets (raw claude…

I made a new daily word game for web and iOS which is a funky mix of scrabble and boggle. Each day everyone gets the same randomly generated configuration of bonus tiles and letters on a grid. The app is written completely in SwiftUI and the web port is written in ts/react. Both use the same random seeds each day.

I know vibe coding is controversial. I wanted to give it a try so over the last ~4 weeks I tried vibe coding a blender/houdini inspired node based 3d geneartion app in my spare time. The original goal was to try to generate great looking 3d environments from relatively small data. Most games download megs or gigs of data and that's no good for web based things. If you're an AI skeptic still, maybe seeing more concretely what's possible today might convince you otherwise? I'm not making any claim the code is good, though I'm also not claiming is bad. I had fun giving it a try. I was…
