Over breakfast, I thought about how to circumvent SOPA (as I understand it). Key problem: SOPA allows the government to tell DNS servers to stop linking certain website addresses to their IPs. Abstract Solution: Remove the need for DNS servers in the majority of cases. Idea 1: Have a list of IP addresses stored in each browser so they don't have to be resolved. Y'all, I've been reading about the "nuclear option" that some internet giants are considering in order to highlight SOPA and I wondered why they didn't just put a banner saying to "Pay attention to SOPA" on their sites. This is a proof of concept utility which allows you to expose local services to the internet at large: https://github.com/skx/tunneller In short it is a simple ngrok alternative, which you can self-host. Because it is a proof of concept it hasn't been tested extensively, but it seems like it will solve my immediate-needs. Of course it needs test, and structure added. But feedback can't hurt :)

Hello HN! A few days ago I saw a comment on reddit which proposed a service that allowed the user to spam a website's server logs with messages objecting to the presence of various anti-features like popups, noisy ads, and autoplaying content. I created a small bash script called Nethole that uses ARP spoofing to break WPA3 connections—not by deauthing or capturing handshakes, but by silently killing connectivity. Since WPA3 uses Management Frame Protection, tools like aircrack-ng don’t work well for attacks like deauth or handshake capture. Instead, this tool sets up a MITM using arpspoof, then disables IP forwarding to cause infinite buffering on the victim’s device. They appear connected to Wi-Fi, but get no usable internet. Hi! I am sharing this because it may be useful to others. I created a simple Docker image that lets you easily expose a web app running locally on your dev machine to the Internet, via a proxy server. It is a self hosted alternative to something like Ngrok, which is a paid service if you use custom domains. A small server is cheaper than Ngrok (I use Hetzner Cloud and the cheapest server costs me 3€ per month). If my experience is any indicator, the DNS issue seems to be getting worse as the hours go by, not better. However, I have found that adding OpenDNS servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.222.222) to my list of DNS servers has completely eliminated the issue, at least for the time being. So, under my IPv4 configuration, in the "DNS Servers" field, I have "208.67.222.222, 208.67.222.222, 8.8.8.8" - the last one is the Google DNS server. I'm able to resolve Twitter, Github, etc.
