24 alternatives to Interactive California Budget (By Claude Code)

There's been a lot of discussion around the california budget and some proposed tax policies, so I asked claude code to research the budget and turn it into an interactive dashboard. Using async subagents claude was able to research ~a dozen budget line items at once across multiple years, adding lots of helpful context and graphs to someone like me who was starting with little familiarity. It still struggles with frontend changes, but for research this probably 20-40x's my throughput. Let me know any additional data or visualizations that would be interesting to add!

Interactive California Budget is a research dashboard that visualizes California's state budget across multiple years with supporting context and charts. Built using Claude Code's async subagents, it allows users… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

Built this after realizing I was spending ~$1400/week on Claude Code with almost no visibility into what was actually consuming tokens. Tools like ccusage give a cost breakdown per model and per day, but I wanted to understand usage at the task level. CodeBurn reads the JSONL session transcripts that Claude Code stores locally (~/.claude/projects/) and classifies each turn into 13 categories based on tool usage patterns (no LLM calls involved). One surprising result: about 56% of my spend was on conversation turns with no tool usage. Actual coding (edits/writes) was…

I kept slamming into Claude Code limits mid-session and couldn’t find a quick way to see how close I was getting, so I hacked together a tiny local tracker. Streams your prompt + completion usage in real time Predicts whether you’ll hit the cap before the session ends Runs 100 % locally (no auth, no server) Presets for Pro, Max × 5, Max × 20 — tweak a JSON if your plan’s different GitHub: https://github.com/Maciek-roboblog/Claude-Code-Usage-Monitor It’s already spared me a few “why did my run just stop?” moments, but it’s still rough around the edges. Feedback, bug…

I got tired of Claude Code forgetting all my context every time I open a new session: set-up decisions, how I like my margins, decision history. etc. We built a shared memory layer you can drop in as a Claude Code Skill. It’s basically a tiny memory DB with recall that remembers your sessions. Not magic. Not AGI. Just state. Hey Everybody! Hope you had a merry christmas Today I had a bit of fun with Claude. Started by scraping YC's startups list, then ran them through OpenAI's embedding service, then UMAP'd the embedding to reduce the dimension to just two coordinates and then just forced Claude to write React that would compile to visualize that. I had fun and I think it's interesting, so take a look! Also note that you won't be able to zoom on mobile (found about this Plotly limitation way too late). If there's interest I can fix this issue by changing plotting libs tomorrow :) Merry christmas

Every MCP tool call dumps raw data into Claude Code's 200K context window. A Playwright snapshot costs 56 KB, 20 GitHub issues cost 59 KB. After 30 minutes, 40% of your context is gone. I built an MCP server that sits between Claude Code and these outputs. It processes them in sandboxes and only returns summaries. 315 KB becomes 5.4 KB. It supports 10 language runtimes, SQLite FTS5 with BM25 ranking for search, and batch execution. Session time before slowdown goes from ~30 min to ~3 hours. MIT licensed, single command install: /plugin marketplace add mksglu/claude-context-mode…

Hello HN, Recently an amazingly beautiful explainer was shared on HN: https://explainers.blog/posts/why-is-the-sky-blue/ I loved it so much that I wished more topics were explained that way. So, I decided to stress-test today's frontier models (Opus 4.6 in Claude Code) to generate similar explainer on any given topic WITH (almost) one shot and minimal nudging. I'm launching with four topics: Fourier transformation, scaling laws in bio, cellular automata and LLMs. I would let you be the judge, but I'm quite liking them. Some things I learned: - Prompting CC to test…

Hey HN! I built Year in Code to turn your Claude Code usage into a beautiful Wrapped-style report (like Spotify Wrapped). If you use Claude Code with ccusage, it's super quick to try: Setup (2 minutes): 1. Run: `npx -y ccusage@latest daily --since 20250101 --until 20251231 --json > wrapped.json` 2. Upload at yearincode.xyz/2025 3. Get your report! *What you'll see:* - Total tokens - Activity streaks & patterns - Top models used - Shareable report Key features: - 100% secure: 100% browser processing, no server uploads - 2-minute setup: One npx command, upload JSON, done - Free & open…

This project (Agents Observe) started as an exploration into building automation harnesses around claude code. I needed a way to see exactly what teams of agents were doing in realtime and to filter and search their output. A few interesting learnings from building and using this: - Claude code hooks are blocking - performance degrades rapidly if you have a lot of plugins that use hooks - Hooks provide a lot more useful info than OTEL data - Claude's jsonl files provide the full picture - Lifecycle management of MCP processes started by plugins is a bit kludgy at best The biggest takeaway is…

I built Fiscal (fscl), a headless CLI for Actual Budget that's optimized for AI agents running in the terminal (Claude Code, OpenClaw, etc). It acts as an Actual Budget client, so it can sync with an existing Actual server. I built it because I wanted an agent-friendly way to handle repetitive budgeting work while still being able to review everything in the Actual web dashboard. Claude Code added a /stats command. The stats are cached in $HOME/.claude, so I made a fun program with Bun + WASM that pulls the stats (nonsensitive, nonidentifiable), posts them to a database, and lets you see where your usage lies. The code is here[^1] if anyone's interested in the rendering code or wants to make sure I'm not exfiltrating their credit card. [^1]: https://github.com/tspader/claude-wrapped/

A little while ago I was searching for a nice status line to use in Claude Code and was surprised that no community library type website existed for people to show off what they have made. So I decided to have a little fun and make one. All status lines are manually reviewed and rendered in a live container to capture the output. Enjoy!
