24 alternatives to Fiscal

I built Fiscal (fscl), a headless CLI for Actual Budget that's optimized for AI agents running in the terminal (Claude Code, OpenClaw, etc). It acts as an Actual Budget client, so it can sync with an existing Actual server. I built it because I wanted an agent-friendly way to handle repetitive budgeting work while still being able to review everything in the Actual web dashboard. I've been using this daily for 4 months and figured others might find it useful. This is my first open source project so would love any feedback. Ray connects to your bank via Plaid, stores everything in an encrypted local SQLite database, and lets you ask questions about your finances in natural language. No cloud, no account, your data is stored on your machine. Before anything reaches the LLM, all PII is stripped — your name, companies, transaction details are redacted and replaced with tokens, then rehydrated locally in the response. The AI never sees who you are.

Hello HN, I don't post on here much, but wanted to get some eyes on a new project I'm just launching. I think we definitely need one more AI code agent.. I'm a long-term C++ dev, and over 30+ years I've created some successful audio dev tools (JUCE, the Tracktion DAW, the Cmajor DSP language). All of these came from me getting annoyed with something I had to use, and deciding to have a go at my own take on whatever it was. So Juggler is my attempt at an AI code agent, after spending too many hours loving what the models could do, but hating the CLI experience, and having some opinions of…

Some technical context on what we ran into building this. MCP tools don't really work for financial data at scale. One tool call for five years of daily prices dumps tens of thousands of tokens into the context window. And data vendors pack dozens of tools into a single MCP server, schemas alone can eat 50k+ tokens before the agent does anything useful. So we auto-generate typed Python modules from the MCP schemas at workspace init and upload them into the sandbox. The agent just imports them like a normal library. Only a one-line summary per server stays in the prompt. We have around 80…

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on called Frugal Tokens. I originally built it because I was curious to see how much all of my sessions cost and how much cache misses affected that spend. I’d noticed people had widely different spend profiles and wanted to better understand what might contribute to that. As I’ve worked on this, the tool has grown to show more usage patterns across all of your sessions. It shows overall usage, estimated working time and overlapping sessions, and where your spend is coming from across models and cache misses. I also have a few session level…

Hi guys, am building SecureLend.ai and when working on our underwriting agents (free trial, paid after) I had issues with seamless payment options. Of course I looked at x402 which I believe is a great protocol but not a fan of a) sharing private keys with the agent b) having a human in the loop or c) similar workaround e.g. pre-funded wallets So I started building out a solution. For my use case it was important to not only have stablecoins but also a fiat rail which is now implemented using Stripe. Initially I build a mandate system internally but am very glad and big shoutout to the guys…

There's been a lot of discussion around the california budget and some proposed tax policies, so I asked claude code to research the budget and turn it into an interactive dashboard. Using async subagents claude was able to research ~a dozen budget line items at once across multiple years, adding lots of helpful context and graphs to someone like me who was starting with little familiarity. It still struggles with frontend changes, but for research this probably 20-40x's my throughput. Let me know any additional data or visualizations that would be interesting to add!

Clink lets you use the coding agents you already pay for (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Z.ai GLM) to build → live-preview → ship apps in an isolated container. No token purchases, no extra cost for coding. Just link your existing Claude/OpenAI/Gemini account and start building and deploying instantly. Why we built this: Claude Code is our go-to for coding, but it lacked preview + deploy capabilities. We didn't want to pay Lovable again just for that. Different agents excel at different tasks - Claude Code for versatility, Codex for complex work, GLM for speed. We needed one…

Hi HN! I'm excited to share that Treasury (https://treasury.sh) is now available on the iOS App Store. Treasury is a personal finance app I've been building, and we just opened up our public beta. We'd love your feedback. Currently, Treasury has a set of core building blocks that let you create financial setups as simple or as complex as you want. You can track your net worth, analyze spending, spot recurring transactions, and build budgets that actually match how you think about money. Download it from the App Store and let me know what you think.

At my last job I spent a year building an agentic coding platform used by hundreds of thousands of people. Along the way I tried building a hosting service on OpenClaw, and also ran Hermes myself for a while. Both projects have some great feature ideas, but when I tried to use them for real work they failed more often than not, and their security models worried me. I just couldn't see either one becoming something I'd trust enough for myself/friends/family. After a lot of exploration I realized that what I really wanted all along was to create automations using the coding agent I…

I'm an "ideas person" who messes around with AI on a low budget. I got tired of watching my tokens vanish and context windows filling up while agents fumbled around trying to find the right thing. Agents don't flail like they used to with shell tools, but there are still weak/blind spots and back-and-forth episodes — especially when using tools in combination/sequence. So I built "tilth" today. Or rather, AI built it — every line is Opus 4.6. I spent a lot of my precious tokens getting it to "not shit" (at least several of the different vendors' AI overlords assure me it's not…

Hi HN, for quite some time I've been thinking how LLMs are missing the knowledge base, where I can dump CSVs, PDFs, and most important, inline web app. running on Claude Code (bring your own agent) with agents with heartbeats and jobs https://runcabinet.com It runs locally and is installable via npm. GitHub (open source): https://github.com/hilash/cabinet This is still very early. I put the first version together quickly after seeing a post by Andrej Karpathy about LLM knowledge bases, which matched closely with what I’d been building. Some people have already…

Hi! I built PaperRight.xyz because I've tried everything: - AI-assisted budgeting tools that promise to "optimize" your spending - Spreadsheets with lots of formulas and color-coded cells - Apps that gamify saving and tell you your financial horoscope, or whatever None of them stuck. They were either too rigid, or too automated, or just too much. I don't need a terminally confused AI financial advisor (or a confused human financial advisor). I just needed something simple that showed me some metrics I couldn't find in any other budgeting app so I built paperright.xyz!
