I'm in my 4th year living in Denmark as an expat, and I finally decided it’s time to properly learn Danish. I do have a Danish girlfriend, after all. One way I’ve been practicing is by trying to text only in Danish, but I often find myself stuck. I start my message in Danish, then hit a wall because I don’t know a word or how to fit something naturally into the sentence. Especially in those cases, I used to give up and translate the entire message from English, which kind of defeats the purpose and interrupts the learning process. So I started prompting GPT. I’d write my message with…

Hey HN, QA GPT enables engineers and QA teams to write UI and functionality tests in plain english. As engineers, we sometimes get a little lazy when it comes to testing the functionality of our changes. It's hard to switch from coder hat to user hat. However, a single bug can significantly impact users experience and satisfaction. Errors found in production aren't just a nuisance; they're costly. The later a bug is discovered, the more expensive it becomes to fix. I built QA GPT as a proof of concept to make writing UI/functionality tests really easy. It's super simple - just write…

Hi HN, I made Lingo - the SQLite of semantic search. I'm a self-taught developer and researcher who left school at 16, and I've spent some time exploring a first-principles approach to system design for various frontier problems. In this case it's AI that challenges the 'bigger is better' transformer paradigm. Lingo is the first piece of that research, a high-performance linguistic database designed to run on-device. The full technical overview and manifesto is here: https://medium.com/@robm.antunes/bcd1e9752af6 The paper has been archived on Zenodo with a DOI:…

Hi When you are learning a new language, you need to practice different skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing. I find writing to be the hardest activity, not least because I have to look up words in the dictionary all the time, and that is a frustrating context switch. Here is an experimental CodeMirror-based editor, that lets you look up translations inline. Type @ followed by the English word, and get a list of possible translations, and select the translation to apply it. Online demo: https://foreign-dispatch-autocomplete.netlify.app/

Hey HN, I wanted to share a UI toolkit project I’ve been working on recently, born out of how difficult I found it to build a great UX on top of LLMs, and keep application state in sync. I’ve built: - A React/JS front-end library for conversational interfaces, which makes it super easy to bootstrap AI assistants and ChatGPT style UX: https://github.com/nlkitai/nlux - A set of adapters that simplify integration with AI backends such as LangServe and HuggingFace The library is highly configurable, easy to theme, supports markdown streaming (that was tough to get…
