Hi HN! In the last couple of weeks I've been working on Cranki: Cranki = Crosswords + Anki. (It's a stupid name tbh, haha) I like doing crosswords in Spanish (to learn vocab) but none of the apps out there allowed me to use my own list of words that I come across. So I built one instead. It's entirely client-side. No server, no database, no accounts, etc. Your words and stats are stored in local storage. I built this for myself but let me know if you like it!

Hi all! I built FlipJump, a programming language with just 1 opcode, yet capable of any computation. It started with thinking of the idea of the minimalistic language, but it's more than that - I had to set up the whole environment for it: I have written a macro-assembler, an interpreter for the binary, and a very extensive standard library. I haven't seen anything like this so I decided to build it in a weekend. How it works: You see a bunch of things pulled from Wikipedia displayed on cards. You ask yes or no questions to figure out which card is the secret article. The AI model has access to the image and wiki text and it's own knowledge to answer your question. Fully leaned into vibe coding this time around. Started on v0, at some point ejected into running locally (getting v0's exported folder to run locally was a challenge), then iterated with Cursor over the course of a few hours. I’ve been working on a browser-based evolutionary simulation as a personal experiment. Organisms adapt to environmental pressure over time, and there are no explicit goals or scoring, the system is open-ended and runs continuously. I built this mainly to challenge myself and to explore how to surface simulation behavior and statistics in a way that stays readable rather than overwhelming. As a side effect, it’s also something my kids enjoys watching run. Curious what resonates and what doesn’t, and happy to answer questions about the design or tradeoffs.

I wanted to find a product idea to build. "Build things people want," right? So I thought, why not literally find people saying what they want? I wrote a script to collect thousands of Reddit posts where people are looking for a solution or complaining about a problem. Then I used GPT to filter out the noise and score each one based on how viable the idea seemed. Threw together a simple search interface so anyone can explore them. I was planning to build a more advanced paid version of this, but figured I'd share the raw version first to see if it's actually useful to anyone.
