24 alternatives to PinkArrows – An open-source Skitch alternative on the web

I really loved Skitch. In fact, the pink Skitch arrows and dumbed-down text became a trademark of mine in multiple jobs. In a sea of text on Slack and email, Skitch annotations are a refreshing way to make a single, obvious, and easy to digest point. Since Skitch shut down, I've looked for multiple alternatives that are: Free-ish, have similar styling, and are lightweight (no signin, no server syncing). I didn't find any, so I built PinkArrows. Live version at https://pinkarrows.app

PinkArrows is an open-source web tool for annotating images with arrows and text, designed as a lightweight alternative to the discontinued Skitch app. It requires no sign-in or server syncing and features Skitch's… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. It's my first time launching my own SaaS. I planned to develop it with a friend, but he refused to work with me because his developer skills are higher (in his opinion). I developed a simple online email scraper by keyword, hashtag, or followers using Google Search as a source of data (with Dorks) I will be glad to receive any feedback and suggestions.

Alright so if you run a self-hosted blog, you've probably noticed AI companies scraping it for training data. And not just a little (RIP to your server bill). There isn't much you can do about it without cloudflare. These companies ignore robots.txt, and you're competing with teams with more resources than you. It's you vs the MJs of programming, you're not going to win. But there is a solution. Now I'm not going to say it's a great solution...but a solution is a solution. If your website contains content that will trigger their scraper's safeguards, it will get dropped from their data…

Hi! I'm Marcell, and I'm working on FetchFox (https://fetchfoxai.com). It's a Chrome extension that lets you use AI to scrape any website for any data. I'd love to get your feedback. Here's a quick demo showing how you can use it to scrape leads from an auto dealer directory. What's cool is that it scrapes non-uniform pages, which is quite hard to do with "traditional" scrapers: https://youtu.be/wPbyPSFsqzA A little background: I've written lots and lots of scrapers over the last 10+ years. They're fun to write when they work, but the internet has changed in ways…

Hello HN! I want to share something me and a few friends have been working on for a while now — Zeroshot, a web tool that builds image classifiers using text-image models and autolabeling. What does this mean in practice? You can put together an image classifier in about 30 seconds that’s faster and more accurate than CLIP, but that you can deploy yourself however you’d like. It’s open source, commercially licensed, and doesn’t require you to pay anyone per API call. Here's a 2 minute video that shows it off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4R1gtmM-Lo How/why does it…

I wrote some simple open source web-based app to (1) dynamically compute knitting patterns (based on input parameters, such as the exact desired size), and (2) display these patterns and help me keep track of which row I'm on (as I start knitting), similar to minimalist "row counters" that other knitters use. It also gives you a simple visualization of the shape of what you're knitting. You can see it in action at https://alefore.github.io/knit/ (and read about it in https://github.com/alefore/knit). Right now I only implemented on simple pattern:…

I’ve been a long-time Snowplow user and unofficial evangelizer. I have deep respect for its founders, Alex and Yali, who I met a few times. What made me fall in love with Snowplow was that it was unopinionated, gave access to raw event data, and was truly open source. Back in 2013, that changed everything for me. I couldn’t look at GA the same way again. Over the years, analytics moved into SQL warehouses driven by cheaper CPU/storage, dbt, reproducibility, and transparency. I saw the need for a democratized Snowplow pipeline and launched a hosted version in 2019. In January 2024,…

Hey HN, My friend and I built a Chrome extension called Pigeon because we kept Googling “Reddit + [product name]” whenever we wanted to know what real people thought about something. Pigeon saves that step by looking at what’s on the page, finding related Reddit discussions, and showing the most helpful comments and opinions in one place. We’ve both found it super useful when researching products or topics online and thought others might too. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi HN! Ah yes, another web scraper. There are so many out there, so why make another one? Because I wanted one that's stupid simple and stupid fast. Unlike most web scrapers, Easy Scraper doesn’t make you build a new scraper for each site or individually select fields. You just open it and bam, your data's ready to go. My favorite use case for instantly extracting data anywhere is being able to easily talk to ChatGPT about custom datasets. For example, here's a 1-minute demo of me scraping my Twitter followers to find the ones that live in San Francisco:…
