Hello HN! Here's Billard. It combines music and physics into a unique creative tool, as I explore various unconventional methods for generating music. Most traditional music composition tools revolve around the idea of a repeatable pattern. Billard is a webapp that never repeats itself. It generates music automatically based on the collisions of balls in a 2D space. Collisions trigger notes (or chords) in a given key. One can add balls or move them (y-position is pitch); the app remembers its state between reloads; or it can be reset with the 'init' button on the top left. Gravity can be…

Sharing an open source project for creating psychadelic art -- using liquid motion, distorted shapes, shadows and light. This tool works in real-time in the browser using webgl shaders. This project was inspired by drum & bass / acid techno music, and 90s rave posters. Use this to create art for a music video, concert posters, stylized animations in creative projects, or simply to enjoy alongside some fine music. Use the detailed control menu (top-right) to set a custom canvas size, adjust animation speed, control pattern and colours, etc... You can export your creation as an image or…

I think Suno opened up music. Kling and Runway opened up video - but there's one creative domain nobody has touched yet: dance. So my team built an web app — give it a YouTube link to your music and it generates a 3D dance animation in under 2 minutes. The core is a diffusion-based music-to-motion model (mvnt-m4) trained on proprietary mocap/label data from professional choreographers. I think dance is the missing piece of AI-generated content — just like how performance made K-pop a global phenomenon, and we believe AI dance will play the same role in the AI UGC era. This is v0.1 — a…

This is an web audio experiment I've been wanting to do for a long time. Basically an ambient music composition, but all the sound elements are laid out in space, and that musical space can be explored freely. It's definitely inspired by in-world music that sometimes appears in games. I basically took that concept, keeping the music aspect, and dropping the entire "game" aspect. I also turned it into a more "traditional" non-interactive album, but since I started with code, why not program the whole thing? Had a blast making the entire album from code, the complete source for the album is…

Hi HN! I could never find the right sample for my music, so we built Sounds. A collaborative catalog of free samples and loops, generated with our music model. Everything is free to browse and download, but the most fun part is to generate your own. Every generation joins the public library, so the catalog grows from what people couldn't find.

I am excited to announce a new tool for music producers and audio enthusiasts - a music audio search engine. With just a simple description of the groove you're looking for, our semantic search engine will output the most similar audio in seconds. I used the Freesound.org API to upload over 3,000 grooves to MongoDB, and combined all the relevant data such as tags, title, description, BPM, etc. into OpenAI's Text-Davinci to generate a unique description of each sound. I then embedded these descriptions using the Ada Embeddings Model and inserted them into Pinecone DB vector database, making…

The HN community may find the context of the prompts, organized by each turn in each session, the most useful. See the website/docs/prompts.md and session-X.md files. I also started exploring some workflows for the LLM to execute, organized in the website/docs/tasks/ folder. I found it pretty handy to have the LLM document our work as we went and simply embedded the static site into the executable, along with all the music and logic. The whole project took me about a day for the backend. The C++ controller itself took only a few turns. I enjoyed focusing on my son's…

I just released my latest Godot project, a rhythm-based dungeon crawler a la Crypt of the Necrodancer. The entire game plays out in 16 x 9 pixels because of a dare from my game dev group. I've open-sourced (MIT) the code and project files. Of course, the music files I don't own aren't included in the Github project, but I'm releasing the game's hand-crafted pixel sprites under CC0. The Github page also talks about some of the tricks you need to make the rhythm part of the game play nice with the dungeon crawling part.

What it does: Real-time pitch detection in browser using multiple algorithms: CREPE (deep learning model via TensorFlow.js) YIN (autocorrelation-based fundamental frequency estimation) FFT with harmonic product spectrum AMDF (average magnitude difference function) Outputs: visual piano roll, MIDI files, Strudel/TidalCycles code All client-side, nothing leaves your machine Why multiple algorithms: Different pitch…
