Several months ago, I built a "stealth" feature that I could use. It hasn't been advertised, and I've been the only user. As I find it useful for myself, I believe others (software developers) may like it too. I created a leaderboard showcasing the top 1000 GitHub repositories based on the number of stars. With GitHub hosting over 100 million public repositories, this leaderboard highlights the top 0.001% in terms of the number of stars. Stars might not be the perfect metric for adoption—metrics like the number of monthly downloads could be more accurate—but this list still represents some of the most popular and influential projects in the open-source community. Just released a simple web tool, GitStars (http://www.gitstars.com) to help make the act of starring repositories on GitHub infinitely more useful. When you log into GitStars, your starred GitHub repositories are fetched and automatically tagged. You can freely edit the tags and help make the system's auto tagging better for everyone.
