24 alternatives to Reveddit.com: Improving online discourse with transparent moderation

Hi HN, this talk represents a summary of my work over the last four years on addressing shadow moderation with Reveddit. Let me know what you think, good or bad, and I'll do my best to answer. What is shadow moderation? It is any action taken against your content that you aren't told about and aren't able to detect while logged in. I focus on Reddit comments since every single removal is shadow removed— removed comments are shown to you as if they're not. You can try this for yourself on, https://www.reveddit.com…

Reveddit helps users detect shadow moderation on Reddit, where comments are removed without notification and appear visible to the poster. The tool reveals removals that users cannot detect while logged in, addressing… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Reveddit.com: Improving online discourse with transparent moderation launched in 2022; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

My partner, Nick Hodges, and I, David Millington, have been on the Internet for a very long time -- since the Usenet days. We’ve seen it all, and have long been frustrated by bad comments, horrible people, and discouraging discussions. We've also been around places where the discussion is wonderful and productive. How to get more of the latter and less of the former? Current moderation tools just seem to focus on deletion and banning. Wouldn’t it be helpful to encourage productive discussion and teach people how to discuss and argue (in the debate sense) better? A year ago we started…

I built this last year but never posted it anywhere, but now with Reddit hiatus it seems like the right time to give it a shot. The main goal of zsync is to foster high quality content and discussion. That's it. If it can't accomplish that, then to me it is a failure. I watched Reddit go from having high quality discussion in 2008-9 to devolving into the PC meme dumpster it is today [1]. HN still has the highest discussion quality of any "forum" I know of, but (1) it can sometimes randomly be very hostile/toxic to new tech, the most glaring example being crypto. (2) HN is basically a…

This is my attempt at helping those who are trying to ditch reddit but have not been satisfied with the content from Lemmy or haven't been able to find the corresponding communities. There are two sides to this project. The first one is that I have setup a Lemmy instance (alien.top) which is mirroring some of the reddit content from subreddits that I wanted to follow with the comments. The difference from most mirroring bots is that, instead of one single bot account mirroring all content, the system creates one account for each reddit user that is being mirrored. The other part of this idea…

There are a ton of interesting blogs on the web, probably more than there were when the web was new, but even though there's more they're a smaller…

We built Valohai LLM for tracking and comparing LLM evaluation results. Whether your evals live in notebooks and spreadsheets, or you're using an observability tool that wasn't built for comparison, this gives you a purpose-built eval comparison dashboard. Run evals with a Python library (pip install valohai-llm), results stream in, and you can compare up to 6 configurations side by side. Group by any dimension (model, category, difficulty) to see where each model excels. It doesn't do tracing or production observability, for now just eval tracking and comparison. What's cool is that you can…

Here's the problem: I launched two products. I wrote blog posts. I posted on X, built in public. I tried running ads. And you know what actually got me customers? Replying to someone on Reddit who asked, "What's the best tool for this?" One reply. Three signups. I felt like an idiot for not doing it sooner. But here's the issue: I don't have time to refresh Reddit all day looking for these posts. I have products to build. Bugs to fix. Emails to answer. Life to live. So I built Overlead to do the searching for me. Overlead scans Reddit, Quora, and Hacker News (and many more to come) for…

Hey HN, I'm a freelance web developer and got tired of the endless email chains during website QA. Clients would send screenshots with red circles, or worse, Word docs with "the button on the page with the thing." I'd spend more time decoding feedback than actually fixing stuff. So I built Commentblocks. You add a script to your staging site, send clients a link, and they click anywhere on the page to leave a comment. That's it. No signup for them, no explaining how to use it. Each comment captures the exact element, viewport size, browser, and URL. Comments show up in a dashboard or can go…

Hi, I'm Ritinkar and I'm building metadocs, which is kind of like reddit built into every documentation ever. It's a chrome extension that allows discussion on any webpage to happen there itself. Currently I have built threaded comments, and a upvote/downvote system. Plus I've built this cool feature called Highlights, which lets you discuss specific lines in any documentation. As well as a feature called Top Hightlights, which shows the most interesting hightlights on any webpage. Hope you guys will try it out. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask me here. Thanks.

I built this for myself. I make videos, and my biggest bottleneck is figuring out what to say to my audience without staring at a blank page. So I built Scriptmine: a tool that listens to Reddit conversations in my niche, finds high-signal topics, and turns them into scripts. How it works: - Track subreddits and discussions relevant to a niche - Rank topics by engagement/momentum - Generate a hook/body/CTA draft in a chosen voice/format

Hi HN, this is a platform (Discuit, pronounced "diskette") I've been working on for about two years. I initially built it for a niche demographic (my native country). But now with Reddit going dark and people looking for a new place to migrate to, I'm doing a quick launch today. A few quick things: 1. I don't believe federated platforms will ever become mainstream. They have a whole host of problems, not the least of which is that they're too complicated for most people to use. This platform is not, therefore, federated. 2. I don't know what the best way of monetizing a thing like this is. I…

I'm sure you all saw the debate a few days ago, alongside all the tech influencoors giving their mid-takes about politics. Doesn't it get tiring? That's why I built mindfirewall a chrome extension that uses AI to filter out tweets. You'll never have to see politics, war, or negativity on your timeline again. In the future you'll be shocked you even allowed this stuff into your brain in the first place. Let me know what you think below, does it feel too much like censorship? would you use this?

I'm always nervous to post online (this is my very first HN post), so I built an anonymous forum where posts are automatically deleted after 24 hours. Every upvote or comment resets the clock. Some things I like about this concept: - The sheer volume of information on the internet is overwhelming - disappearing.chat keeps that volume low - Unpopular content slowly fades away, so you can visually watch bad takes disappear - Content is always fresh because even popular things will eventually stop getting interaction - Takes the pressure off that your content is going to stick around forever…

I've tracked the top 3000 subscribed (and some subreddits that I visit frequently) subreddit's active user over time, so you know when to post to get the most feedback! I come from a nodejs background, and this is the first time coding with Go, so the structures might not be standard. But feel free to give me any feedbacks!
