Audit and Detect Insecure RTSP Streams on IP Cameras!

Hi! Recently smart-glasses with cameras like the Meta Ray-bans seem to be getting more popular. As does some people's desire to remove/cover up the recording indicator LED. I wanted to see if there's a way to detect when people are recording with these types of glasses, so a little bit ago I started working this project. I've hit a little bit of a wall though so I'm very much open to ideas! I've written a bunch more on the link (+photos are there), but essentially this uses 2 fingerprinting approaches: - retro-reflectivity of the camera sensor by looking at IR reflections. mixed results…

This runs YOLOv8 + bytetrack with Tinygrad detections (depending on user config) are saved and can be sent to the companion iOS app along with a notification, all video processing is done locally, all footage is encrypted before leaving your computer, and the sending notifications + videos part is optional. This uses tinygrad, so it runs well on my apple silicon macs and should be able to run on a lot of hardware (or will be able to when I remove other deps).

TL;DR explanation (go to https://github.com/Sakura-sx/Aroma?tab=readme-ov-file#tldr-e... if you want the formatted version) This is done by measuring the minimum TCP RTT (client.socket.tcpi_min_rtt) seen and the smoothed TCP RTT (client.socket.tcpi_rtt). I am getting this data by using Fastly Custom VCL, they get this data from the Linux kernel (struct tcp_info -> tcpi_min_rtt and tcpi_rtt). I am using Fastly for the Demo since they have PoPs all around the world and they expose TCP socket data to me. The score is calculated by doing tcpi_min_rtt/tcpi_rtt. It's…

IPDetective collects data from about 60+ different sources such as official cloud provider endpoints and public VPN/Proxy/Tor/Bot net lists. Then aggregates this data into a fast and easy to use API that can be integrated into applications or scripts easily. IPDetective started as a hobby project for my other hobby projects :) and I decided to wrap a simple website around and offer it as a service. Let me know what your thoughts, if you find value in this service or if you have any feature requests.

picosnitch helps you protect your security and privacy by "snitching" on anything that connects to the internet, letting you know when, how much data was transferred, and to where. It uses BPF to monitor network traffic per application, and per parent to cover those that just call others. It also hashes every executable, and will complain if some mischievous program is giving it trouble.

Several months ago, I posted in Show HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42284412) about this project (previously named Privastead, now changed to Secluso). It's a privacy-preserving home security camera that uses OpenMLS for end-to-end encryption between the camera and the mobile app. The post received a good amount of attention and there were many good comments. Since then, my project cofounder and I have made major improvements to the project. The project previously would act as a hub for an IP camera, which was otherwise closed source. But now, our camera software can…

We're open-sourcing Sighthound today, our rules-based static security scanner. What makes it special is that it's coded in rust and uses tree-sitter as it's AST making it very fast and easily extensible. Why build another scanner in 2026? We wanted to improve some of our detection outcomes but noticed the current open source scanners like Semgrep/Opengrep we're capped by a bunch of adoption limitations such as being written in OCaml, requiring a lot of work to add a language parser, and the rulesets were licensed differently and required paid offerings. It also felt that licensing was…
