24 alternatives to Sleuth, open source workspace search in natural language
Hey everyone, We know how hard it can be to ramp up and learn the ins and outs of a new company. - “Who should I talk to about customer onboarding?” - “What was that project the onboarding team shipped in June, that had a massive impact on step 3 completion rate?” Instead of asking someone the same question that’s been asked hundreds of times before, it’s more efficient to find answers in existing documents and past conversations. The problem is, this data is spread out across dozens of workplace apps, with search features that all work differently. That’s why we’ve created Sleuth, an open…
Sleuth is an open source library that searches across a company's workspace data using natural language queries. It indexes documents and conversations spread across multiple workplace apps, understanding question… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Sleuth, open source workspace search in natural language launched in 2023; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

Hello Hacker News! I built Sleuth, an open source search tool for your workspace. I originally started off with Slack but quickly learned that Confluence search is a well documented problem: https://twitter.com/beajammingh/status/1273742155731791872?s... Sleuth solves this problem using semantic search to find relevant Confluence pages and Slack messages for your query. You can ask Sleuth questions about HR policies, technical documentation, product decisions, and more. Sleuth is open source and can be self-hosted, although there are dependencies on OpenAI and…

OpenJobs AI▲621Hey HN, We’re building OpenJobs AI, an AI recruiting agent focused on the outbound sourcing workflow. In recruiting, teams often already know what kind of person they want — but still spend a lot of time manually searching, filtering, and writing first-touch outreach. We wanted to see how much of that work an agent could actually take over. Today, OpenJobs AI focuses on the sourcing part of recruiting. Given a role, it can help with candidate discovery, filtering, matching, and outreach initiation. The goal is to move sourcing from a manual, repetitive workflow into something an agent can…

My friend and I have been feeling frustrated at how inefficient it is to find information at work. There are so many tools (Slack, Confluence, GitHub, Jira, Google Drive, etc.) and they provide different (often not great) ways to find information. We thought maybe LLMs could help, so over the last couple months we've been spending a bit of time on the side to build Danswer. It is an open source, self-hosted search tool that allows you to ask questions and get answers across common workspace apps AND your personal documents (via file upload / web scraping)! Full demo here:…

GitHired▲360Hey HN - today I’m launching GitHired. A hiring platform that ranks developers based on what they actually build — not what they claim on a PDF. It’s called GitHired, and here’s the core idea: GitHub > Resumes Instead of trusting “proficient in React” bullet points, we analyze a candidate’s actual GitHub: their real tech stack their most complex projects how active they are what kinds of contributions they make which skills match your job description and yes, we detect fake “green square farming.” Why we built this Because engineering hiring is broken. Resumes are inflated. Activity charts…

Hi HN, We’re Brendan and Michael, the creators of Sourcebot (https://github.com/sourcebot-dev/sourcebot). Sourcebot is an open-source code search tool that allows you to quickly search across many large codebases. Check out our demo video here: https://youtu.be/mrIFYSB_1F4, or try it for yourself on our demo site here: https://demo.sourcebot.dev While at prior roles, we’ve both felt the pain of searching across hundreds of multi-million line codebases. Using local tools like grep were ill-suited since you often only had a handful of codebases…

Hi all! A few weeks ago I was scrolling through confluence pages trying to find ssh connection details to our integration machine for 40 minutes straight, later I discovered my co-worker slack'ed me the ssh connection string two months ago. So the same weekend I started working on haystack - a search engine for workplace apps. that enables you to search slack, confluence, jira, teams, sharepoint, github, and email in one place. I wanted it to support natural language queries so a query like: "how to connect to integ2 machine?" yields: ssh -i private.pem…

Hey HN! Over the past few months, I've been working on building Omni - a workplace search and chat platform that connects to apps like Google Drive/Gmail, Slack, Confluence, etc. Essentially an open-source alternative to Glean, fully self-hosted. I noticed that some orgs find Glean to be expensive and not very extensible. I wanted to build something that small to mid-size teams could run themselves, so I decided to build it all on Postgres (ParadeDB to be precise) and pgvector. No Elasticsearch, or dedicated vector databases. I figured Postgres is more than capable of handling the level…

I’ve been using deep research on OpenAI and Perplexity and it’s been just amazing at gathering data across a lot of related and chained searches. Just earlier today, I asked “What are some marquee tech companies / hot startups (not including the giants like FAAMG, Samsung, Nvidia etc.)”. It’s a pretty involved question and looking up “marquee tech startups” or "hot tech startups" on Google gave me nothing useful. Deep research on both ChatGPT and Perplexity gave really high quality responses with ChatGPT siding on slightly larger scaleups and Perplexity siding more on up and coming…

Hi HN! I'm Jonathan and I built Hacker Search (https://hackersearch.net), a semantic search engine for Hacker News. Type a keyword or a description of what you're interested in, and you'll get top links from HN surfaced to you along with brief summaries. Unlike HN's otherwise very valuable search feature, Hacker Search doesn't require you to get your keywords exactly right. That's achieved by leveraging OpenAI's latest embedding models alongside more traditional indexes extracted from the scraped and cleaned up contents of the links. I think there are many more interesting things…

Hi HN, I built an open-source AI agent that has already indexed and can search the entire Epstein files, roughly 100M words of publicly released documents. The goal was simple: make a large, messy corpus of PDFs and text files immediately searchable in a precise way, without relying on keyword search or bloated prompts. What it does: - The full dataset is already indexed - You can ask natural language questions - Answers are grounded and include direct references to source documents - Supports both exact text lookup and semantic search Discussion around these files is often fragmented. This…

Wellcome▲95Hi everyone, I got tired of the daily "Where is everyone working from?" / "Who's coming in today" messages in various slack channels. So I built *FindMyTeam*: it's a Slack app that pings your team once a day with three buttons – Home, Office, Traveling – and then shows a quick who's‑where summary (plus a monthly heat‑map in the App Home to see patterns). How it works: * Once a day the app posts a reminder to check-in * Either hit one of the three buttons, or use natural language (AI, yo! ;) * The app maintains a summary each day in the channel * Reminder times can be customized per…

We (Nick, Dens, Denzell, Fede, Drew, Aaryan, and Daniel) have been building HN Discovery, a discovery-focused search engine for Hacker News, in our spare time for the past 6 months and are excited to show it! It adds the following features relative to the existing keyword search interface and preserves the existing ones: - no-JS version (hnnojs.trieve.ai) - site:{required_site} and site:{negated-site} filters - public analytics - LLM generated query suggestions based on random stories - recommendations - dense vector semantic search - SPLADE fulltext search - RAG AI chat - order by…

The website is meant for people that look for jobs on HackerNews "Who's Hiring" threads and want to focus more on fresh ads and companies, or to quickly look up ad history of any company. Github repository: https://github.com/nemanjam/hn-new-jobs Demo website: https://hackernews-new-jobs.arm1.nemanjamitic.com I used Algolia API as a data source, along with scheduled task that parses new threads few times at the beginning of each month. The extracted data is then stored in SQLite database for fast querying, and the results are cached with Keyv for faster page…

Trails▲81Hey all, Justin here. I previously built Phind, the AI search engine for developers. One of the biggest problems we had there was figuring out what went wrong with bad searches. We had tons of searches per day, but less than 1% of users gave any explicit feedback. So we were either manually digging through searches or making general system improvements and hoping they helped. This problem gets harder with agents. Traces are longer and more complex. It takes more effort to review them, so I'm building a tool that lets you analyze LLM outputs directly to help developers of LLM apps and agents…

Hey HN After years working in software engineering and helping with hiring, I noticed a frustrating pattern: Companies often rely on résumés and LinkedIn titles to find developers instead of looking at what they've actually built. So I built GitMatcher. It analyzes GitHub profiles to surface developers based on: Their public repos Commit history Originality and usefulness of code Patterns that show consistency and real skill No keywords. No job titles. Just code. GitMatcher is useful if you're: - A recruiter tired of resume roulette - A founder looking for a technical co-founder - An OSS…
