Products that do what Streamus - An open-source Chrome extension for managing YouTube music does

Hey everyone, I'm a young developer with a penchant for music and quality software. I have spent the last 16 months developing an open-source Google Chrome extension which attempts to simplify the experience of using YouTube to play music. Streamus: http://streamus.com/ Streamus currently has 14,000 users and is the #1 trending / #4 ranked 'fun' extension in the web store. I've built it entirely from scratch while teaching myself the basics of BackboneJS (and Backbone.Marionette), RequireJS, GruntJS and many other, smaller libraries. It has been a great learning…

I created this chrome extension for myself where I track my own behavior locally and recommend myself content from platforms I want content from (youtube/twitter/quora/etc) in a feed. I made it public just in case anyone else was interested. I would rather have control over my own algorithm and own the data. Also, it gives me flexibility. Turns out I do like these feeds just not when I don't own it haha. Let me know what you think of my implementation?

Hey HN! I've been working on Muxamp for over a year now, and I decided that there's no point in keeping the source closed. (I never planned on making money from it.) I've learned a lot since I started, and I hope others can benefit from its release--and perhaps teach me a thing or two as well :)

Hey there! This is Dan and Ustin (@uzarubin), and we want to share something cool we've been working on for the past year - an open-source `tail -f` for your data, with a UI. We call it "Streamdal" which is a word salad for streaming systems (because we love them) and DAL or data access layer (because we’re nerds). Here's the repo: https://github.com/streamdal/streamdal Here's the site: https://streamdal.com And here's a live demo: https://demo.streamdal.com (github repo has an explanation of the demo) — — — THE PROBLEM We built this because the…

I've been working on and off on a Chrome Extension for Hacker News, the extension focusses on improved usability rather than design. I can almost guarantee that after a day you won't want to go back to regular Hacker News. Give it a try, features include: - Improved readability - Quick inline replies from comments page - Quick profiles with social network info when hovering over usernames - Filtering of stories based on terms and phrases / domain or user - Endless scrolling - Collapsible comment threads - Social sharing for Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Buffer Forks, improvements and comments…

I'd like to get some input on my project from the Hacker News community. The Reddit thread can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/j5bl3/can_whoever_makes_browsers_please_consider_adding/ The extension itself is located here: http://www.mutetab.com/ Basically, my project is a Chrome extension that attempts to provide browser-wide sound management to the extent possible within an extension. It helps a user find what is making sound by identifying what is possibly making sound, allows automatically muting background sounds, and provides a context menu with sound…

Hello HN! Beginner dev here; read several articles about the challenges faced by users with disabilities (and the impact on businesses). Thought to build a chrome extension to enhance web experience for users with disabilities, after realizing that current solutions focus on auditing web for accessibility. Current features published on Chrome store: Text Magnification | High contrast | Alt text | TTS. Working on (but not published yet) tooltip to explain each feature, additional language support. Will appreciate feedback, collaborations and suggestions of things to improve. GitHub Repo:…

Here is the backstory: I used to use YouTube Music, but then I deleted my Google account. I didn't want Spotify because I hate it for various reasons, and at the same time I wanted to show off my programming skills. So here we are. --- On the client: solidjs + tailwindcss + minisearch. IndexedDB as the database. One web worker to download audio to OPFS. Another web worker for indexing with minisearch. On top of this a service worker to precache static assets and make the app work offline. On the server: bun + astro + sqlite + ffmpeg. Full-text search is implemented with fts5. Astro Actions…

This extension will replace videos on websites with a custom one that use download acceleration to prebuffer as you watch. It works on most websites, including Youtube. Fortuitously, it is also able to bypass Youtube's anti-adblock shenanigans. I started this project in high school to fix the terrible video players used on most websites. Since then, I've received a lot of feedback from my users and FastStream has improved significantly. Now that most bugs have been ironed out, I think I am ready to share it here on HN. It is still undergoing rapid development (multiple releases every week),…

Hey all- I just released a New tab replacement Chrome extension that makes browsing a lot easier - it also solves many of the annoyances with browser tabs. It's called Yellopages and it's free. Hope you'll give it a try. * Groups all tabs from same domain. Makes it simple to kill all your Gmail tabs in one click (or keep just one). * Groups all tabs playing audio. Toggle the sound for each one. * Single text search for open tabs, bookmarks, and browsing history. * Groups all tabs with new notifications (e.g. emails, likes, posts, replies, etc.) * One click to kill all tabs (e.g. you're…

Hey there, HN! My name is Rishit, and this is my first post here on HN. Let me start off by asking you a question. How many tabs do you have open in Chrome right now? If you said less than five or ten: Congratulations, you’re not suffering from the dreaded 'Too Many Tabs Syndrome' (TMTS). Well, most probably! We all grow and start from zero. What?! Say that again. Did I hear you correctly? 25? 50? 100? Maybe even more? Or you’re just too lazy like me and said ‘too many’ since you can’t count them on your fingers? Woah! Now we’re talking! Yeah, yeah, I know, we’re in HN land after all, so I…

I use several browsers between college, work and home and I like to have them synced so I can find websites I've searched for in a browser when I don't have access to it or access my bookmarks. I don't like the idea of using any of the sync services offered by the major browsers because of how they might use my data, because they lack some features I'd like to have, and because they all try to lock you into their ecosystem. So I'm building an open source cross-browser manager for browsing activity. I would love to hear your thoughts on this concept, and if you have any questions or…

Hello Hacker News community, I've been developing a simple Chrome extension designed to assist journalists and researchers or learners in their YouTube investigations. You can swiftly identify specific segments within a video using semantic searches, powered by the OpenAI API. This transforms hours of potential scrubbing into moments of precision seeking. Whether you're sifting through extensive interviews, press conferences, and event footage on YouTube, or you require a quote from a video source, This extension is a handy tool. It also aids in quickly fact-checking statements made in…

I have made a browser extension that plays only the audio, blocking the video on YouTube, YouTube Music and all embedded YouTube videos in third party sites. It can also hide the thumbnails and avatars and skip the ads. It is compatible with Chrome, most of the Chromium browsers and Firefox. Additionally, it can be installed in smartphones using the Kiwi browser that supports extensions from the Chrome Web Store. I released the extension back in October, 2019 but from now the source code is available on GitHub as well.

I'm a musician by night, software developer by day, and one of the minor frustrations I've always had was trying to find a simple tuner app for my phone. Looking at both the iOS and Android app stores, you'll find a lot of the top tuner apps are rather bloated with ads or subscription callouts. I thought I'd create a dead-simple minimalistic mobile chromatic tuner the way I would like it - open the app and tune my guitar. My work is in web with NodeJS and React, so I chose React Native since it was the easiest to understand coming from React. Flutter was also an option since the company I…

Muxamp is a unified playlist that lets you search for and play YouTube and SoundCloud media back-to-back. It is my first web app, written entirely in JavaScript (thanks to Node.JS). Link: http://muxamp.com/ Features: * Easy track search * Drag and drop playlist rearrangement * Sharing your playlist is as easy as copy-pasting the URL * Attractive UI, thanks to Bootstrap and CSS * Free, no sign-up required This is a personal project of mine that I used to learn more about JavaScript and web programming. Feedback is appreciated! (Tell me if it sucks or not.) This project is hosted by Nodester…
