Hi HN! I’m Alex from Parabola (https://parabola.io). Parabola is a visual programming tool for creating functional data flows that everyone can use. It’s entirely drag-and-drop, handles data sizes much larger than a traditional spreadsheet, calculates everything live, and can run your flows on a schedule of your choosing. I used to work in strategy consulting, doing data analytics for SMBs and Fortune 500 companies. The amount of time wasted on menial tasks was astounding. Things like cleaning data, generating custom reports, creating human workflows to solve shortcomings in third…

OP here: I created this visualization tool as the byproduct of a supply chain class I taught at Columbia. The pedagogical exercise grew into a full blown visualization and paper about global oil trade. The model: The mechanics are the same as the financial network Eisenberg-Noe: Instead of banks, every country consumes oil interconnected via bilateral trading. Shocks propagate throughout the network, depleting oil reserves when bottleneck nodes (such as the Strait of Hormuz) are blocked. Insights: The interesting part is the mechanics of how the crisis unfolds: for example, France receives 0…

This is a powerful online curve fitting tool that supports fitting dozens of commonly used functions and implicit functions. It features a clean interface and simple operation. If you need to perform curve fitting but don't want to learn professional software like Matlab or Origin, you can try this tool.

This little project came about because I kept running into the same problem: cleanly differentiating sensor data before doing analysis. There are a ton of ways to solve this problem, I've always personally been a fan of using kalman filters for the job as its easy to get the double whammy of resampling/upsampling to a fixed consistent rate and also smoothing/outlier rejection. I wrote a little numpy only bayesian filtering/smoothing library recently (https://github.com/hugohadfield/bayesfilter/) so this felt like a fun and very useful first thing to…

Hi HN, excited to share the project I have been working on for the past two years. Marple was created by engineers for engineers. Marple helps them organize and analyze their sensor data in a more user-friendly way. We’ve all been there: measurement data from an experiment or test needs to be analyzed but the only thing you have is a few data files flying around. You do not have a clue how to open or read the data. So what you do next is open your Python/Matlab/Jupyter Notebook/… and start coding in order to make some sense of the data. We didn’t like that process, so we…

Our initial intention was to experiment with a smartbook idea, but we couldn't find a good prototyping tool for small/specialized AI models. That rabbit hole took us through vector databases, through infra for small AI, and finally here. We’re particularly proud of the accessibility/simplicity of our code syntax. Krixik’s model library is limited to eleven model types (modules) and a few dozen models, but we will significantly expand it. Other enhancements, like a local client and several 3rd-party integrations, are also planned. You require API credentials to try Krixik. You can…

Hey HN, I'm excited to share a new side project I've been working on. The product is called Matrices. You can check it out here: https://matrices.com/. With Matrices, you can explore, visualize, and share large (100k rows) datasets–all without code. Filter data down to just what you want, visualize it with built-in charts, and share your results with one click. You can use it today (no login or waitlist or anything). Just copy and paste your data from a google sheet or CSV file. It's hard to describe the feeling of "gliding over data" you get with Matrices, so I'd rather…

Hello, I have several years of experience as a Python developer, and during that time, I've worked on intricate applications dealing with large volumes of data. One frequent challenge I faced was benchmarking the application and identifying performance bottlenecks. While there are some excellent Python profiling tools available, they can be quite daunting for beginners. The utility I have developed simplifies this process, making it as straightforward as possible to transition from slow code to a detailed flame chart. I would greatly appreciate your feedback!
