Products that do what UK Butchers Meat Price Tracker does

Hey all! Long time lurker, thought I would contribute back something to the community (at least the meat eaters in the UK). One thing that's been a pain for me to get a good understanding of is what the best price is for online butchers based around the UK. I like high quality meat (including some of the bigger cuts for kamado/bbq), and I'm willing to pay a premium however there isn't a single resource that would let me get an overview of what's available and price movements over time. For my Xmas meat I didn't want to start building out a spreadsheet so I built a price tracker with…

Hey HN! I'm a bit of a knife steel geek and got tired of juggling tabs to compare stats. So, I built this tool: https://new.knife.day/blog/knife-steel-comparisons/all It lets you pick steels (like the ones in the screenshot) and see a radar chart comparing their edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening on a simple 1-10 scale. It's already been super handy for me, and I thought fellow knife/metallurgy enthusiasts here might find it useful too. Would love to hear your thoughts or any steel requests! Cheers!

Hi! I'm Jax and I've been building this cool little terminal app for myself to track my expenses and budgets! Other than challenging myself to learn Python, I built this mainly around the habit of budget tracking at the end of the day. (I tried tracking on-the-go, but the balance was always out of sync.) All data is stored in a single sqlite file, so you can export and process them all you want! The app is built using the textual API for Python! Awesome framework which feels like I'm doing webdev haha. You can check out some screenshots on gh:…

I took inspiration from diskprices.com, but applied it to my golfing hobby. For someone who can't always keep it in the fairway, golf balls can get rather expensive, so I decided to build a way for me to view Amazon listings by how much they cost per ball in the hopes of finding some good deals. Hence the name of the website. The site is hosted on Cloudflare pages and I use Github actions to trigger a python script that fetches and checks the prices. It runs twice a day. If the script encounters any new ASINs, it stores them for future checks, so the list of golf balls being price checked…

I started to track my expenses on excel sheets earlier this year. It was interesting to see how much I spent casually on just another hangout with friends or on education. Excel sheets are painful, at least for me. So I built this with my friend: (it's just MVP) http://accountant.besperk.com Edit: Coming up next: > Mobile site and apps asap. > Graphs and reports > SSL > Custom Alerts (when you cross a certain limit, that you define, for certain tag) > Pre populated tags. It’s available on iOS now: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id6499280064 We got into specialty coffee during COVID and, like many others, fell deep down the rabbit hole. Along the way, we ran into the same frustrations: - A drawer full of empty coffee bags. - No simple way to track grind size, rest dates, notes—by bean. - My coffee history scattered across photos, screenshots, notebooks, and half-memories. - The unique traits, people, and stories behind each coffee disappearing from the internet once it sold out (since coffee is an agricultural good) - In our opinion, no…

I wanted to quantify the endless "which knife should I buy" debates on r/chefknives, so I built a data analysis pipeline to get some real answers. The project is a 5-phase system built with Node.js. It first uses Fuse.js for fast, typo-tolerant fuzzy matching of ~450 known brands and ~8,700 models. The remaining text is then passed to an LLM (via OpenRouter) for discovering new, unknown entities and performing sentiment analysis on every mention. I ran it on over 1,000 threads, totaling more than 25,000 comments. A few interesting findings: The Underdog: Budget-friendly Tojiro has a…

I've been writing on Substack for the last year, and from the beginning I've been aware that I might want to migrate to a different platform at some point. I've been looking into the various alternatives to Substack for a while, and always found it difficult to compare costs across the different platforms. There's just too many variables that factor into the cost, and each platform has a slightly different pricing scheme. I've also been looking for the chance to try Streamlit, a Python library for making dashboards. Getting started with Streamlit was even easier than I imagined, so I ended…

Hey, HN! Cody and Jake here, the founders of FeatureTracker (https://www.featuretracker.com). We have one simple goal, to allow creators to make data-backed decisions when building interfaces. Maybe you have a really fancy date picker and are looking for ways to scale it back. With FeatureTracker you can track the granular usage of each component of that date picker, then decide what to keep and what to cut based on actual numbers. We track specific clicks and provide a few simple data points to make you feel a little more comfortable making decisions and less like you’re driving…

I brew coffee and I buy a lot of beans. I’m also a lazy person that doesn’t want to type in all the details in one of the available apps and track things to the grams. Luckily I found out that GPT-4o (free tier) is good enough to take a few photos I uploaded of a bag and parse it’s roaster, varietal, origin, tasting notes, roast date, etc. I tried with a dozen different bags and it works pretty well - even when it makes mistakes I can correct them with natural language conversation, which I enjoyed. Then I had to figure out storage. I don’t want to rely on the chat history / context as…

Hi HN, I'm a solo dev and for the last few months I've been building Hikaro, a tool to find statistically significant trading signals for [e.g., US equities, crypto, forex]. I built this to solve my own problem: I was tired of backtests that looked great on paper but failed in practice. Simple metrics like "win rate" can be misleading, so I wanted a way to quickly tell if a signal's performance was genuine or just noise. Hikaro ingests daily market data and runs statistical analysis on various trading signals. The goal is to surface signals with strong properties, like: Low p-value: Evidence…

Hey HN! I built this over the weekend. It is basically an extremely rudimentary crowd sourced recommendation system for anything in any city. I know that I could easily look this information up on Yelp but I thought it might be nicer to simply look up something like "the best steak in new york" and get that information. The database is almost empty but if you look up the "best coffee in ann arbor" you'll get a result which I seeded. Go ahead and contribute what you can. Ill be adding CAPTCHAs soon to prevent spammers. Here is the link: http://www.krowd.me
