Hi HN! My name is Grigory, I'm a backend developer from 9 to 5, but I'm also hacking stuff on the side, though I never reached the point of actually releasing anything. But now it's over and I decided to share the product I recently built. Every time I walked through an interesting neighborhood, I'd stop every few blocks to Google buildings, statues, or street names. Felt like I was missing the flow of exploration. It also takes time to find facts that are actually interesting and not just dates or numbers. E.g. I'm not always keen to know when this was built, but rather if it has some story…

This is a weekend project that spiraled out of control. I was originally trying to get Claude to play a ROM of the SNES SimCity. I struggled with it and that led me to Micropolis (the open-sourced SimCity engine) and was able to get it to work by bolting on an API. The weekend hack turned into a headless city simulation platform where anyone can get an API key (no signup) and have their AI agent play mayor. The simulation runs the real Micropolis engine inside Cloudflare Durable Objects, one per city. Every city is public and browsable on the site. LLMs are awful at the spatial stuff, which…

Viberia▲146Hey HN, This is my take on the agent harness. Everything on an isometric map. Agents are grouped into "buildings" that run in a sequence or a loop; e.g., the CodeForge has an agent that writes a PRD, another one that implements, and a third that reviews. Everything is customizable, you build your own buildings/teams however you want. It's a Tauri app, really light (about 8x less energy than the closest competitor I benchmarked, so it actually runs from a coffee shop on battery). It's macOS only for now, but ping me if you are willing to test the Windows or Linux version. I've been…

Hi Hacker News, This is definitely out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to show you guys because I'm super proud of it. It's a 100% faithful recreation based off of the schematics, patents, and ROMs that were found online. So please watch the video and tell me what you think https://youtu.be/auOlZXI1VxA The reason why I think this is relevant is because I've been a programmer for 25 years and AI scares the shit out of me. I'm not a programmer anymore. I'm something else now. I don't know what it is but it's multi-disciplinary, and it doesn't involve writing code myself--for…

I love culture + travel, and one of my favorite pastimes is dropping into random streets on Google Street View. I just LOVE getting a tiny snippet into how people live, the architecture, and discovering hidden corners of places I'll probably never visit. I'm kinda weird like that. When AI came along, I started asking it to explain what I was looking at - and I learned a ton. I couldn't stop using this combo. So I built Streetwhip. It's kinda like reverse Geoguessr - instead of guessing where you are, you get educated about places as if you had a smart local guide with you. What used to be…

Hi HN! I'd love your feedback for this AI storytelling game. Remember when you used to read choose-your-own adventure books as a kid? We're trying to re-create that. The site lets you create adventures by seeding them with parameters that end up feeding LLMs: title, genre, writing style, etc. Once you've done that, you can play your book like a game: with custom chapters, illustrations, voice narration, choices, and dice rolls. We’re really into the idea of merging the open-ended generative AI with goal-directed story arcs that the game author can control. Everything is open source (links…

What if there was an app that collected every comment and review from across the internet and let you search for any personal preference you have in a cafe or restaurant? I used to travel a lot and explore cities, but I spent way too much time trying to find hidden gems, local food, or must-go places. I'd end up with endless tabs, TikTok scrolls, and still land on the same touristy spots. So I finally got fed up and built Skylet.ai – an AI that actually understands "hidden gem" and lets you search by vibe instead of generic lists. Just type what you're feeling: cozy cafe with great city…

I’m excited to share the project I’ve been working on for a while now called Nuvvel, which utilizes AI to generate detailed, rich stories for avid readers. You might think of it as a mix between an endless Netflix series and a dedicated Wikipedia for each series. The platform features interconnected characters, each with their own story arcs, and immersive locations where events unfold, connecting everything together. Each series begins with a story arc told over many chapters. Once a chapter is unlocked, it becomes available for everyone to read. Some chapters might already be unlocked by…

I haven't seen anything like this so I decided to build it in a weekend. How it works: You see a bunch of things pulled from Wikipedia displayed on cards. You ask yes or no questions to figure out which card is the secret article. The AI model has access to the image and wiki text and it's own knowledge to answer your question. Happy to have my credits burned for the day but I'll probably have to make this paid at some point so enjoy. I found it's not easy to get cheap+fast+good responses but the tech is getting there. Most of the prompts are running through Groq infra or hitting a cache…

Hi Everyone, I've just launched my new android app Rova http://bit.ly/1kZOkwm which allows you to view streamed video stories about different places based on your location. There's also a pokemon go style element that pays you for visiting popular locations based on the community. I've been working on this singlehanded for a few months solid so I wanted to show you guys where I am. I'd love your feedback on everything from design to usability. Cheers and best regards, Robbi.

I've built this as a side project last month. I know there are a few similar sites out there, but I've found them cumbersome to navigate with ads that slow down the experience. So I decided to take a stab at it and build my own version, with a minimalist UI (+ I implemented a custom right-click menu to enable navigation even when the UI is hidden), ad-free, just for fun. There are over 130+ cities that you can explore right now, but I'm constantly adding new ones.

Hi hn, Its been a while since my kid has been dreaming to make videogames, as you know, the entry bar is high, too many technical details are involved. A few months ago, we started making games, we have tried many different ways, from dragging blocks to write code with a high-level library to make it simple, it is still too much work. Getting into the AI boat, I decided to give it a try for making games, turns out that it works super nicely, still, you still have many technical concepts involved, what language should the game be written in? where do you store the file/assets? how do you…

Hi HN! I've built a web that takes your Steam game library and generates a 3D city from it. Games become buildings, playtime determines height. So your most-played game is a massive tower and that game you impulse-bought during a sale and never touched is basically a parking garage. There's also a world view where every player's library is a building on a shared map. About 7k people on it right now, you can fly around the whole thing. You can try this on https://thesteamcity.com Built with Next.js, React Three Fiber, and Supabase. Works on mobile too. Hope you like it!
