Run `ssh devzat.hackclub.com` to try it out! The repo is here: https://github.com/quackduck/devzat (golang). It has markdown and emoji support, DMs, channels, and it can show images too. You can send code, and it gets syntax highlighted (you can change the theme). You can ping people like so: @user and it sends them a \a, which should play an audible sound if the terminal allows it. There's inbuilt games and rainbow names and a lot of other small things I don't remember right now. You might find the auth system interesting: it's based on a hash of ssh pubkey (bans use…

It works on top of the open-source workflow engine windmill [1] that you can easily self-host on a tiny server or a large k8s cluster. You will also need pgvector (here hosted on supabase) and of course a GPT4 api key. It showcases an approval step so that you only provide answers you are confident giving to your users, which feels less robotic. All the building blocks are scripts that you can reuse outside of windmill and you could build this in any other workflow engines (although less conveniently). We use it for our own needs on discord [2] and thoughts this was a common need for any…

Hey HN! I have been working on this project for a while, and I think this solves a problem that a lot of people here have: not being able to easily search Discord servers. Currently, I only scrape servers that are marked as "discoverable" on Discord. However, if there's enough interest in the project, I'm open to adding specific servers by request. I'm primarily focused on informational servers rather than casual hangout spaces, such as open source projects, Minecraft mods, and support communities for tools, services, or platforms (for example, hosting providers). I have placed restrictions…

This is a Discord bot I made, which lets you write and evaluate Lisp code in collaborative sessions on Discord. I wrote it in a short amount of time, partly for learning purposes, but also because I found the idea exciting and it was fun to hack around. I'd be happy to get your feedback, especially on how to improve the deletion mechanism (maybe make deletion sexpr-based?). I've tried to make the README detailed enough so that it's easy to make some changes and run your own version.

I'm running several voice-only virtual coffee events on the Discord server in the URL, only for today. The rules are pretty simple: 1. Wait for the "event" to start (see times at the end) 2. If there are no tables with 1 participant, join any one. 3. If there is a table with 1 participant, join that one. 4. When the event ends, all the voice channels are deleted and you have to wait till the next event starts. I initially wanted to build my own web app but then I realised it would be so much easier to just leverage Discord's infrastructure. I also built a bot in a couple hundred lines of Go…

Hello, everyone. Three months ago, I started building my first GoLang package, VarMQ. In this short period, I gained a significant amount of traction from the community, and it resulted in over 140 stars on GitHub. A week ago, to check how it performs, I ran benchmarks with a similar package, Pond, which has been managed for years. Pond is not a message queue, though; however, it can be compared to VarmQ since it shares some similarities, except for its storage system. From the benchmarks, I got surprising results, which are that Varmq is taking 50%+ less memory than Pond and also has good…

Many companies have a public Discord where people ask questions. Sometimes those questions are dumb and can be easily answered by reading the support documents. So we built a bot that does 3 things: 1. Uses FAISS to index public support documents provided as URLs 2. Monitors a Discord channel for questions, prefixed with !help 3. Responds to questions with its best guess of the right answer and cites its source document(s), using Data Augmented Generation from LangChain It won’t be right all of the time, but if people find it helpful we’ll make it better. Take a look at the repo and give us…

GhostHub▲18I built GhostHub because I was tired of Plex/Jellyfin setups just to watch or share a few files. This lets you: - Run instantly (Python script, .exe, or Docker) - Browse media in a swipe-based UI (mobile + desktop) - Share online with built-in tunnel support (Cloudflare or Pinggy) - Set session passwords, live sync views, and even chat No logins. No setup. Just run it, point it to a folder, and go. Live demo (limited features): https://ghosthub.net Would love feedback, bug reports, or ideas!

This weekend I finally shipped Gryt, a project I’ve been building since 2022 — an open-source, self-hostable Discord-style app focused on reliable voice chat + text. I’m the creator. I started it after getting fed up with Discord disconnects/paywalls and wanted something self-hosted and auditable. I started on this in 2022 and had an early proof-of-concept working back then (auth + friends list), but I quickly realized WebRTC voice isn’t something you can duct-tape together. I spent a big chunk of the next couple years learning the stack (ICE/DTLS-SRTP, NAT traversal, SFU design),…
