I made a website that color-codes the world by language

Free & interactive language world map. Discover with how many people you can communicate, and share your coloured map and results!

I made a website that color-codes the world by language launched on July 14, 2023 with 57 votes, #1,372 of 4,347 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.

In plain words

This website presents a color-coded map of the world organized by language distribution. Each region is colored to show which languages are spoken there, making it easy to visualize linguistic patterns globally. It's designed for anyone interested in linguistics, geography, or cultural information who wants to explore how languages are spread across different countries and regions. The interactive format allows users to see language boundaries and relationships at a glance.

Hi HN, I made a web game to practice country locations a while ago and HN liked it, so I thought I'd post my updated version as well. As for how the game works and feels, I'd really recommend you checking it out for yourself, it's free, no signup, no ads. The tech stack is Vue + ts + Tailwind/Daisy for the looks. The learning algorithm is a slight modification of the ts version of FSRS. If you have anything to add, it's open source as well (https://github.com/koljapluemer/learn-worldmap), although not well documented yet. In the end it's just a little sideproject,…

Hi HN, I built a little tool to help me get better at remembering country locations on the map: https://learn-worldmap.netlify.app/ It's made from plain HTML/CSS/JS, and not intended to make any money or anything. Just thought that maybe someone else may enjoy it. Also of course happy about any feedback! Cheerz.

A small site created to see the hell world example in many different languages. I got tired of sites which only showed 10-30 languages. I'm sure there are some inaccuracies (some languages are not I languages per se).

I saw this [0] pretty cool thread by user revskill, and wanted a quicker way to search through it, but also to keep them all in one place so I can read them at my leisure whenever I get time. Right now is like 60 lines of Ruby using Nokogiri, but I will certainly look into it further down the line and improve the list. There's a cronjob checking the thread every 12 hours but I will eventually shut that down and it will become static after that. There are some really awesome blogs in there. I really recommend going through the list, it made my day. [0] "Could you share your personal blog…
