I started a Twitter account to predict late Caltrain trains
Mine is just a little nodejs app with DynamoDB backend. As it turns out, Caltrain was already negotiating contracts with a company called SimplifyTransit to do the same thing. https://twitter.com/caltrainalerts/status/156787824427128013... Happy to shake things up and provide Caltrain riders with options!
I started a Twitter account to predict late Caltrain trains launched on September 8, 2022 with 5 votes, #1,231 of 3,464 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 4 years on.

Get up to date alerts on late Caltrains! Not affiliated with Caltrain, independently developed and run. We are now on an alternative social platform as well.

I was frustrated with the existing caltrain websites / apps, so I made a super minimalist one to answer the actual question I have: how long until the next train? If you're in SF it grabs the next southbound trains, otherwise, the next northbound.

So I decided to look into scheduling tools which could help me automate my writing. I tried a few, but none of them satisfied me. Either the interface was way too complicated or the features i wanted were just not there. Finally, after some time I gave up… and instead I decided to just do it! I hacked up a quick prototype in a weekend. Tried it out - it worked!! Mostly.. I fixed some bugs, made a nice UI, and now (3 weeks later) I think I built one of the nicest scheduling tools out there.

A couple of years ago, I had an interesting idea. What if there was a marketplace where all the underlying tech was open-source? The order management system, the storefront, customer support, etc. The marketplace would simply connect to the seller’s infra instead of locking them in. If, for some reason, the seller is removed from the marketplace, their software stays with them and they can continue accepting orders directly.
