Mine is just a little nodejs app with DynamoDB backend. I was frustrated with the existing caltrain websites / apps, so I made a super minimalist one to answer the actual question I have: how long until the next train? If you're in SF it grabs the next southbound trains, otherwise, the next northbound.

XBeast▲228A few weeks ago I realized i was spending way too much time trying to write quality posts for Twitter. So I decided to look into scheduling tools which could help me automate my writing. I tried a few, but none of them satisfied me. Either the interface was way too complicated or the features i wanted were just not there. Finally, after some time I gave up… and instead I decided to just do it! I hacked up a quick prototype in a weekend. Tried it out - it worked!! Mostly.. I fixed some bugs, made a nice UI, and now (3 weeks later) I think I built one of the nicest scheduling tools out there.

Hi HN, I’m a junior developer. I wanted to share a side project I’ve been working on. The national railway carrier (BDZ) has no public API. They have an official map but the UI is quite dated, often lags, and doesn't show the full route context. Our son is really into trains. He was home sick a few weeks ago and we found that there are several YouTube channels that have live video feeds from various train stations or railway clubs around the US. He really liked it, but he kept wanting to know when the next train was going to show up so he could see it. I needed to get out of localhost:3000 land and ship a (somewhat functional) web app. Anyways, I built Current Ride as a place to put your bucket list items out in the open. When I book flights, I use sites like Kiwi and Skyscanner for flexible searches - multiple airports, custom connections, creative routes, etc. But rail search feels oddly constrained. During my fundraise, I had 6 Calendly links I was managing actively. My goals were: 1. Investors should always find links comfortable to their timezone 2. I had problems scheduling company get together. 3 days in next 3 months, 12 people, whats the best date for that? I've build the solution to my problem (human coded haha) and recently is started getting traction which is nice, so we added Slack integration (Claude coded). I've spent the last couple weeks working on getting this up and running. It's my first web app. The use case it is designed for is for shift workers who work x days on, y days off.
