In plain words

Iridescent Crystal is a visual demonstration tool created by Varun that uses raymarching and signed distance field techniques to render an interactive crystal with color-shifting properties. It's designed for people interested in 3D graphics programming and visual effects. The project stands out for its technical implementation of advanced rendering methods that create realistic lighting and refraction effects on crystalline structures.

From the sources

When building a 3D scene using libraries such as Three.js we generally use meshes. You define a geometry attach some material to it to create a mesh. Then add that mesh to the scene to render it. This is also how 3D modelling software like Blender and Cinema4D work. However, in the demoscene world—where the goal of is to create stuff using extremely small and self-contained computer programs—this approach didn’t work. They’d have to package a 3D library or engine along with the demo code which takes up a lot of memory. So, those folks came up with a pretty innovative approach. They used signed distance fields (SDFs) to define the geometry and then use raymarching to render the scene. The…from varun.ca

I'm the co-creator and maintainer of https://aframe.io/ and long time Web 3D graphics dev. Super excited about new techniques to author / render / represent 3D. Spark is a an open source library to easily integrate Gaussian splats in your THREE.js scene I worked with some friends and I hope you find useful. Looking forward to hearing what features / rendering techniques you would love to see next.

I've been going through Cem Yuksel's "Introduction to Computer Graphics" course and thought that writing a volume renderer would be a good way to test my knowledge. It is a common technique used to render 3D medical data. Works by ray marching a specific step size, reading a 3D texture (e.g. MRI data), and calculating opacity values. Code should be easy to get started with for anyone familiar with the JS ecosystem. Questions for the HN community: I spent 20-25% of the entire time just setting up the project and fighting issues with the JavaScript ecosystem. This experience has made me…

I saw this [0] pretty cool thread by user revskill, and wanted a quicker way to search through it, but also to keep them all in one place so I can read them at my leisure whenever I get time. Right now is like 60 lines of Ruby using Nokogiri, but I will certainly look into it further down the line and improve the list. There's a cronjob checking the thread every 12 hours but I will eventually shut that down and it will become static after that. There are some really awesome blogs in there. I really recommend going through the list, it made my day. [0] "Could you share your personal blog…
