Beautiful Spanish stories for language learners

What it does

I built an app for learning Spanish through reading stories. Quite frankly, this app is not groundbreaking. I built it because everything else in the space was frustrating UX, super overpriced, or so AI that it felt entirely unusable. It's got tap to translate, native audio, auto review (think ANKI) based on what you struggle with, and an indie dev (me) offering incredibly human support and development. Plenty of features on the horizon but want to hear what people want before building more :)

    Personalized Duolingo (kind of) for vocabulary building2025 · github.com · ▲161

Hi! Wanted to share the project I really wanted to have. TLDR; this app lets you create your own list of words and you get a Duolingo-like experience (kind of, still needs a lot of features) practicing those words in their context. My English is not the best but not the worst either. But I realized I can't boost it up after a certain level! In my belief, in order to truly learn a language, you need to be exposed to that language often. Vocabulary is the key factor here if you really want to improve in any language. My experience is that when I read a book to improve my English vocabulary, I…

    I'm making an open-source platform for learning JapaneseSep 2025 · kanadojo.com · ▲288

The idea is actually quite simple. As a Japanese learner and a coder, I've always wanted there to be an open-source, 100% free for learning Japanese, similar to Monkeytype in the typing community. Unfortunately, pretty much all language learning apps are closed-sourced and paid these days, and the ones that are free have unfortunately been abandoned. But of course, just creating yet another language learning app was not enough - there has to be a unique selling point. And then I thought to myself: why not make it crazy and do what no other language learning app ever did by adding a gazillion…

All-new Spanish learning app that bans translations

  • ReadPlusOne – Spanish stories built around the words you're learning12d ago · readplusone.com · ▲5

Hey HN, Over the past 6 months, I've been working on a Spanish language learning app that generates stories for you with your target words. For the last 2, I've been reading with it most mornings and it's really helped me grow my vocab. It generates short stories built around your target words you are learning, and uses vocabulary you already know for the majority of the story (around 95%). As you read along you click any word you don't know and it puts them into a spaced repetition system (SRS) to appear in future generated stories. It does need an account to work. I have a short…

    I made a simple web app to help kids learn a new language2024 · voiczy.com · ▲47

Hey there! Out of the necessity to teach my son a new language, I developed an app just for him. After months of use and realizing how effective it was, I decided to make it available to the public. Now, I’m looking for your support, feedback, and possibly help in reaching potential customers. Take a look and let me know your thoughts! Thank you!

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
