Matcha, a Local RSS Daily Digest for Markdown Readers Such as Obsidian

Wanted to check out Golang so built a simple local RSS Digest reader, using any markdown reader as its GUI. I've been using it for the last 4 months and I am quite content with it, especially since my markdown files are synced on all devices, I can consume my daily brew from anywhere and anytime without any FOMO. Features: - RSS Digest: show only previously un-generated articles - Interested Topics/Keywords (through Google News) - Daily Weather - Bookmark to Instapaper - Show hot articles / comments link for Hacker News posts Upcoming Features: - Terminal mode - Quote of the day…

  • I built a tiny-VPS friendly RSS aggregator and reader2024 · github.com · ▲187

Hi, folks. As an RSS user, I tried Inoreader and Feedly, then ended up self-hosting a Miniflux instance on my homelab. A few months ago, I moved to another city and had to shut down my homelab for a long time, so I couldn't access my local miniflux. It was quite inconvenient. I decided to self-host my RSS aggregator on a tiny VPS or PaaS such as fly.io. However, Miniflux requires a PostgreSQL database, which may isn't suitable for a tiny VPS instance. So I built fusion with Golang and SQLite. It contains basic features such as Group, Bookmark, Search, Automatically feeds sniffing,…

I'm Rufus, one of the founders of Flowershow. We love markdown and use it everywhere from making websites, to docs, to knowledgebases. Plus AI splits it everywhere now. Got tired of the framework/config/deploy overhead every time we wanted to share a file or put a site online. So we built the thing we wanted. Files in. Website out. "Vercel for Content" is our aspiration - make deploying (markdown) content as fast, seamless and easy as Vercel did for JS. Command line plus you can connect to github repos, use Obsidian via plugin, or drag and drop files. npm i -g…

Hey HN! I'm excited to share a tool I've been working on - a native Hacker News reader built with Rust and egui. Here's a screenshot: https://github.com/haojiang99/hacker_news_reader/blob/main/s.... As a daily HN reader, I've always struggled with keeping track of interesting posts I want to read later. Browser tabs pile up, bookmarks get forgotten, and I lose track of what I've already read. I needed a way to: 1. Browse HN efficiently (across all sections - hot, new, show, ask, jobs, best) 2. Quickly mark posts as "todo" for later reading 3. Mark posts as…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

A long, meandering, playful conversation with ChatGPT, where I take it through a whirlwind of associative tangents (in order to relax its constraints), then put it into a hypnotic trance and take it into a past-lives regression where it re-lives its own training data. Then I switch it back and forth between "4o" and "o1-preview", engage in some self-reflective philosophizing and ask it to write an essay summarizing our interaction. Some of this is just goofy fun. Some of it is me exploring the tradeoffs between policy alignment, imagination, chain-of-thought reasoning, memory, agreeableness,…
