Mini Metroidvania in 13KB of JavaScript

As part of the annual JS13K games challenge, I've put together a pretty large (but small-in-code) Metroidvania game that fits in just 13KB of compressed Javascript. The source is available here: https://github.com/arikwex/infernal-sigil NOTE: the current head of the main branch is at 13.6KB due to quality of life patches. The legit 13KB version is tagged in github. Useful hacks: - Using Roadroller (https://github.com/lifthrasiir/roadroller) for compression - Compressing the map data as grayscale PNG paired with some code generation. - Using procedural…

In plain words

Mini Metroidvania in 13KB of JavaScript is a full Metroidvania game built for the JS13K games challenge, compressed to fit within 13 kilobytes. The game features exploration, procedurally generated music, and an embedded game engine, all written in compressed JavaScript. It is designed for developers interested in extreme code optimization and game compression techniques, demonstrating practical approaches like PNG-based map compression, procedural animation, and advanced minification strategies.

A couple of years ago, I had an interesting idea. What if there was a marketplace where all the underlying tech was open-source? The order management system, the storefront, customer support, etc. The marketplace would simply connect to the seller’s infra instead of locking them in. If, for some reason, the seller is removed from the marketplace, their software stays with them and they can continue accepting orders directly. This model can be used to disrupt any marketplace from AirBNB to UberEats: building tech for home renters and restaurants and later, leveraging that to build a competing…
