I built a tool (https://1mil.app/hn) to help me test my intuition about various weird business ideas that were on my mind. Heres what still bugs me: since winnability went live in June, it has scored 500+ ideas, and none reached 7/10. The best was 6.3 and the median is 1.3. That includes every scan I ran for myself. My preliminary conclusion: most business ideas are improbable to win. Well, go ahead and try the scanner, and let me know what you think. A free scan without an account is included. Each scan costs Vertex tokens, which is why the tool isn't free.

I was working on validating some of my own project ideas. While trying to find how to validate my idea, I realized the process itself could be turned into a tool. A few late nights later, I had something that takes any startup idea, fetches discussions, summarizes sentiment, and gives a quick “validation score.” It’s very rough, but it works, and it’s already making me rethink a few of my own ideas. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
