What it does

A hosted workstation for your pi session. The hosted service is coming soon; it is not available yet. For me, pi is the epitome of simple, elegant software. Its maintainers embue true craftmanship into the harness. It allows for endless customization and tinkering. My pi harness truly feels like my own. It frees me from lock-in from any of the multitude of AI companies vying for my wallet and data. At the same time, its minimal approach leaves certain aspects of a standard "agentic engineering" environment lacking. This also is its beauty, us, the enthusiastic community of pi users, can build and use our tooling to satisfy our workflow. I consider agent sandboxing, native clients, rbac…from pipod.dev

I built that initially for an AI chat bot that allows teams to perform DevOps tasks straight out of Slack/Teams (with proper permission control, obviously). Useful to let developers perform mundane tasks, or help coordinate incident response. I ended up using it myself on my own machine to manage Hetzner and AWS boxes. I thought that may be useful to others. The default policy should be good enough, but if you don't like living dangerously, you can set it to `paranoid`. A new Emacs mode for AI-assisted coding (Claude Code style), with native Emacs buffers instead of a flickering terminal. Built on top of pi, a no-bs open source Claude Code alternative. It supports Claude, GPT, Gemini, Ollama. I've been using it daily for weeks. Demo video that says more than $NUMBER words: https://danielnouri.org/media/pi-coding-agent-demo.mp4 The key decision here is that we have two separate windows: chat history is a markdown-mode buffer, with beautiful rendering, unlimted scrollback, selective tool expansion where it matters, etc. The input window…

Hi HN, we’re Nick and Drew, and we’re building boxes.dev – the first cloud-only agentic dev environment (ADE) that gives every Codex and Claude Code agent its own cloud computer. We’re two engineers who previously built Gem (co-founder/CTO and first hire), and we spent the last year coding almost exclusively using Codex and Claude Code. It’s been a huge change to how we code, and it’s been exhilarating seeing the models keep getting better – but we eventually realized that developing on localhost was holding us back: - Git worktrees are clunky to set up and use for parallelizing work -…
