Howdy HN! I find myself testing my ping from time to time, especially when my internet seems wonky while WFH. It feels like there should be an easier way test my ping than puling up a terminal or a complex web app - especially when I'm on my phone or any other device that doesn't have a terminal. I figured I should be the change I wish to see in the world and created this super light ping test. A server that replies to your pings faster than ever! Now with IPv6 support. Give it a minute and the response time will go down tremendously: ping ftlping.net On Windows, add an option not to stop after 4 pings: ping -t ftlping.net Works best on MacOS and FreeBSD. Not impressive on Windows but you can see something interesting if you run a packet analyser. I was at FB/Meta from late 2013 to early 2023, mostly working in the compiler/runtime spaces. I got hit in the spring 2023 layoff wave. I immediately started making games in my newfound free time (a lifelong interest, and I even worked in AA(A?) back ca. ~2000), and in October 2023 I stumbled upon the idea of a roguelike pachinko/plinko game inspired by Luck Be A Landlord.
