What it does
RallyTone is a LAN-first, self-hosted voice and text chat app for 2–12 players. Create a party on Windows or macOS, let nearby friends join automatically, or connect directly by IPv4/IPv6 to your own RallyTone Server. It includes voice activation, global Push-to-Talk, team rooms, temporary chat, compact controls, a speaker overlay, and echo/noise reduction. No accounts, ads, analytics, or voice recording.

Voice and text chat made for LAN game nights. No account, no cloud room, and no setup ritual between you and your friends. Active parties appear automatically on your LAN. Pick one, choose an avatar, and join. Local audio processing keeps speech clear, while global Push-to-Talk stays available when your game is focused. Parties stay local by default. Connect by IP to a self-hosted server only after comparing its identity code. Party chat keeps only a short in-memory history and clears it when the party ends. Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
