What it does
A desktop-only demo MVP for reading historical Yiddish documents with instant, in-context translation. Click on a line of text to see its meaning directly on the original page, without switching tabs. This launch focuses on showcasing the core reading experience; if there’s interest, the next step is letting users upload their own PDFs to explore the same way.

TransLiteFeb 2026 · translite.app · ▲98Hello ! David from Spain here :) I built TransLite because I was tired of breaking my flow every time I needed to translate something before sending it. The usual workflow was: copy → open a browser tab → paste → translate → copy again → paste back. I've created a small macOS menubar app that lets you translate the current clipboard instantly using a keyboard shortcut, in any app. It works locally and supports using your own OpenAI / Claude API key. It’s intentionally simple — no accounts, no tracking, no subscriptions. Happy to answer any questions. Best regards, David
Text editor with inline English-German dictionary2022 · github.com · ▲35Hi When you are learning a new language, you need to practice different skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing. I find writing to be the hardest activity, not least because I have to look up words in the dictionary all the time, and that is a frustrating context switch. Here is an experimental CodeMirror-based editor, that lets you look up translations inline. Type @ followed by the English word, and get a list of possible translations, and select the translation to apply it. Online demo: https://foreign-dispatch-autocomplete.netlify.app/

Community, All the HN belong to you. This is an archive of hacker news that fits in your browser. When I made HN Made of Primes I realized I could probably do this offline sqlite/wasm thing with the whole GBs of archive. The whole dataset. So I tried it, and this is it. Have Hacker News on your device. Go to this repo (https://github.com/DOSAYGO-STUDIO/HackerBook): you can download it. Big Query -> ETL -> npx serve docs - that's it. 20 years of HN arguments and beauty, can be yours forever. So they'll never die. Ever. It's the unkillable static archive of HN and it's…
