In plain words
This software simulates real-time nonlinear optical effects using JavaScript and GLSL shaders. It's designed for students, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in optics and physics visualization. The tool runs directly in a web browser, allowing users to observe complex optical phenomena like harmonic generation and wave interactions as they happen. By combining JavaScript for the interface with GPU-accelerated GLSL rendering, it delivers fast, interactive simulations suitable for education and experimentation.

From the sources
An interactive study of controlled nonlinear dynamics, implemented through the concrete example of coupled optical fields. Similar to how a simple pendulum provides insight into oscillatory systems, this project uses a specific optical configuration—coupled fundamental/harmonic fields interacting with an adaptive medium—as an idealized model for exploring how optimization processes can guide complex nonlinear systems toward desired states. While implemented using nonlinear optics, the underlying patterns of parameter-guided nonlinear dynamics may offer insights relevant to other complex systems. At its core is a sophisticated real-time nonlinear optics simulator (contained in simulation.js…from github.com

Volume rendering 3D data in Three.js and GLSL2024 · github.com · ▲108I've been going through Cem Yuksel's "Introduction to Computer Graphics" course and thought that writing a volume renderer would be a good way to test my knowledge. It is a common technique used to render 3D medical data. Works by ray marching a specific step size, reading a 3D texture (e.g. MRI data), and calculating opacity values. Code should be easy to get started with for anyone familiar with the JS ecosystem. Questions for the HN community: I spent 20-25% of the entire time just setting up the project and fighting issues with the JavaScript ecosystem. This experience has made me…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

21st.dev▲1,211I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
