Reclaim

Two machines, one monitor, one keystroke to take it back

What it does

Two computers, one monitor. Reclaim runs on your Mac and switches the monitor between the two with one shortcut. Press it on your Mac's keyboard to send the screen to the other computer. Press it again to bring it back. You never have to see the Mac's screen to do it, and you never have to touch the monitor's buttons. Nothing is installed on the other computer. Nothing to set up either: Reclaim reads both inputs from the monitor itself. No permissions, no network, free.

Free Mac app for two machines on one monitor. When the PC wakes and steals the screen, one keystroke tells the monitor to show your Mac again. No permissions, nothing leaves your Mac.

Two machines share one monitor, and the monitor picks a side. Most monitors switch input automatically to whichever machine has just started sending a picture, which is why a PC waking from sleep takes the screen the moment you nudge its mouse. A Mac never produces that event, because it is already awake and sending continuously, so it has nothing to take the screen back with. The result is an unfair fight: the other machine can steal the monitor and yours cannot answer. Reclaim gives it an answer. Press one keystroke, from wherever you are, and your Mac asks the monitor directly, over the video cable, to select its input. The whole thing lives on the Mac. Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
